The mammoth work of constructing 85,000-km. long Narmda branch canals throughout the state is going on in a full swing. Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today at Randhanpur laid foundation stone for the three construction works of Kutch and Radhanpur branch canal and its distribution system.

Under the three projects, about 986.88-km of branch canals will be built at the cost of Rs.712-crore, which will be instrumental in providing Narmda water to 158 villages of Patan, Banaskantha and Kutch districts.

Addressing a large gathering, Chief Minister said his government is committed to the good of common man and the development of Gujarat state and that anti-Gujarat elements will never be tolerated.

Chief Minister said that Centre is giving 90% grant to the other states for setting up irrigation projects in arid lands, but is not ready to give same amount of grant for Narmda canal work even though the major portion of it is going to benefit the arid land. Instead of making injustice to Gujarat, the Centre should think of competing with it in a healthy way, Chief Minister said.

Center is also showing crookedness in giving approval to putting gates over Sardar Sarovar dam. Sabotaging the progress of Gujarat will neither help Gujarat nor the nation, he said adding that Congress led UPA government should change its anti-Gujarat mentality.

State government sensed the thirst of the people living in barren lands who are eagerly waiting for the waters of Narmda. And so the state government is going whole hog to complete the Sardar Sarovar Yojana as earliest, he said.

Revenue Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel said the branch canal will change the face of Patan-Radhanpur region and in coming days, canal works will be started in Vallabhipur with the cost of Rs.200-crore.

Health Minister Shri Jaynarayan Vyas said that Narmada water will revitalize 11-lakh-acre land of Patan district. With Narmda branch canals, he said, getting water through tankers has become a matter of past. Narmda water will also push animal husbandry and increase milk production in north Gujarat, he added.

Chief Minister handed over cheques to and agriculture kits and Kisan Credit Cards to the farmers. Cheques worth Rs.35-lakh were donated to the Kanya Kelavni Nidhi of the Chief Minister.

Co-operation Minister Shri Parbat Patel, MLAs Shri Shankar Chaudhary, Bhavsinh Rathod, Rajani Patel, Govidbhai Prajapati, Mafatbhai Purohit, Anil Mali, former MPs and ministers, high officials and office bearers of Narmda Nigam were also present on the occasion.
