Corruption and nepotism has deepened their roots in Bengal: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a public meeting in Basirhat and Howrah, West Bengal. Shri Narendra Modi said that these elections were about bidding farewell to the misrule of parties like the Trinamool Congress, Congress and the Left Front that ruined the state for forty years.

The Prime Minister stated that what Bengal needed was all-round development that only BJP could provide. He further added, “Sunset happened for the Left but what came after that? It caused only more darkness. We need the light of development.” Shri Modi said that he had a three-point agenda for Bengal –development, fast-paced development and all-round development.

Speaking at the event, Shri Modi expressed concern over several problems that the state was reeling under the current TMC government. He said that the state government had not been able to fulfil the expectations and aspirations of the youth of Bengal. The state lacked job opportunities for the youth, he added. Shri Modi opined that earlier youngsters from all over the country wanted to come to West Bengal and work but now people from the state had to leave their homes for jobs. “Youngsters have to leave their elderly parents and friends, their fields for work. Industries are shut, there is no work opportunity”, he added.

The PM took note of troubles caused due to acute shortage of water in several areas. Shri Modi, “There has been shortage of water in several areas for so many years. Your MLA came to us, we allocated resources for the same but the TMC government does not want to give you water.” The Prime Minister alleged that there were railway ministers from TMC and Congress parties but the sector did not flourish in the state.

Shri Modi mentioned that corruption and nepotism had deepened their roots in the state under the ruling TMC government in Bengal. He noted the Saradha chit fund scam and stated, “Why did Saradha scam happen? Am not asking who committed the scam as that is known. It happened because doors of banks were shut for poor.” The PM highlighted several measures like the Jan Dhan Yojana that were transforming lives of poor across the country.

Shri Narendra Modi urged people of Bengal to give BJP a chance in these elections so that the state could be taken to newer heights of progress. Several Party leaders joined the PM during the rallies.
