Shri Narendra Modi received a grand and warm welcome in Delhi, on the morning of 17th May, 2014.

On his first visit to the capital, after the NDA’s historic victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Shri Modi was welcomed by a sea of supporters who waved BJP flags and shouted slogans in the support of the PM-to-be. The motorcade of Shri Modi was welcomed by fans who had gathered on the streets, throughout the route from the airport to the BJP office.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Modi thanked the people for the warm welcome and said, “I congratulate and thank the workers for the win. Their hardwork and sweat ensured the Lotus shines again in Delhi. As an individual I tell you- please do not give credit to Modi. This is the result of the hard work of lakhs & lakhs of Karyakartas. The credit for this win goes to people of India, generations of our Karyakartas who worked tirelessly.”

Shri Modi also attended a BJP press conference in the Capital and said, “I thank the people of India. I also thank friends in the media for their efforts towards voter awareness.”

BJP President Shri Rajnath Singh and other senior party leaders were present on the occasion.

PM announces ex-gratia from PMNRF

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today expressed anguish over the loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Namchi, Sikkim. He extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed that those injured recover at the earliest.

The Prime Minister announced that an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Shri Modi stated that the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister shared:

"Anguished by the loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Namchi, Sikkim. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest.
