Hon'ble CM opens Math show, calls for wider use of science in daily life

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today called for increasing the scientific temper among the students, for wider application of science in daily life, to solve problems like malnutrition.

Inaugurating the 38th State Mathematics-Science Exhibition at the Science City here, he said the Gujarat Government is encouraging students in the science stream to explore application of scientific theories in commonplace problems.

In Gujarat, he recalled, students traditionally preferred commerce over science stream, but mathematics has remained the forte of commerce students, too. The number of schools with science stream in tribal and other backward regions has increased from 688 to 1,040 during the last five years.

He said that there lives a Newton in every student of science. There is need to allow the talent to grow into scientist. He expressed the view that application of science and technology will grow further with the fast-paced life in the 21st Century. He suggested the students in their spare time help the government in preparation of soil health cards.

Nearly 1,500 students and 500 teachers of secondary and higher secondary schools and primary teachers colleges taking part in the show with 500 exhibits, this year's theme being 'Challenges of Life: Science & Technology'. There are also special stalls for disseminating information about diabetes, nutrition, agriculture, environment, green energy and modeling.

Education Minister Ramanlal Vora said the government has allocvated Rs.4.50-lakh for each school during the current financial year, appointed 5,000 teachers with B.Sc. with B. Ed. degrees.

Principal Secretary for Science and Technology Ravi Saxena said the government proposed to set up Science Museum and Science Park in every district town.
