PM Modi to chair a 149 member National Committee for commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the constitution of two committees for the commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

The Prime Minister will chair a 149 member National Committee, and the Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, will chair a 23 member Executive Committee.

The members of the National Committee include former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister Shri H.D. Deve Gowda, Union Ministers Shri Rajnath Singh, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Shri Arun Jaitley, Shri Manohar Parrikar, former Deputy Prime Minister Shri L.K. Advani, and BJP President Shri Amit Shah.

Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, former Agriculture Minister Shri Sharad Pawar, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sharad Yadav, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Lyricist Prasoon Joshi, Film Director Shri Chandraprakash Dwivedi, former Hockey player Shri Dhanraj Pillai, former Badminton player and coach Shri Pullela Gopichand, and Founder of Sulabh International Shri Bindeshwar Pathak have been included in the National Committee. Former Chief Justice of India Shri R C Lahoti, Retired Air Chief Marshal Shri S Krishnaswami, Constitutional Expert Shri Subhash Kashyap, and Environmentalist Shri C.P. Bhatt have also been included in the National Committee. The committee includes several Governors, Chief Ministers, Scientists, Journalists, Academicians, Social Workers and Spiritual Leaders.

Union Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma will be the Convenor of the Committee.

Prime Minister Pays Tribute to the Martyrs of the 2001 Parliament Attack

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today paid solemn tribute to the brave security personnel who sacrificed their lives while defending the Parliament of India during the heinous terrorist attack on 13 December 2001.

The Prime Minister stated that the nation remembers with deep respect those who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He noted that their courage, alertness, and unwavering sense of responsibility in the face of grave danger remain an enduring inspiration for every citizen.

In a post on X, Shri Modi wrote:

“On this day, our nation remembers those who laid down their lives during the heinous attack on our Parliament in 2001. In the face of grave danger, their courage, alertness and unwavering sense of duty were remarkable. India will forever remain grateful for their supreme sacrifice.”
