On the evening of Friday 14th March 2014 Shri Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of lawyers in Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium. The gathering was organised by eminent lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Ram Jethmalani. On the occasion, Shri Modi addressed various issues pertaining to the legal fraternity and emphasized on the importance of our judiciary especially in providing justice to the poorest of the poor. “We are living in a democracy and there is immense trust in our judicial system. Yes, the issue of delay can be there but the entire world admires and respects our judicial system,” affirmed Shri Modi. He added that after the Almighty, if there is any place where the people turn to for justice, it is the judiciary, thus underlining the importance of the judiciary.

In his address, Shri Modi called for giving importance to Human Resource Development in the legal field. He said, adding that only being a law graduate is not enough. Similarly, he called for encouraging forensic science education even in the legal faculties considering the changing nature of crime and laws. He further opined, “We all know about BPO. But, we need to think towards LPO- Legal Process Outsourcing. India is the best place for it and our youth are very skilled.” Shri Modi called for making the laws simpler, saying that very often there are lot of ambiguities remaining in the laws which is not a good thing. Shri Modi talked about the initiatives of the Gujarat government such as providing E-library facilities right upto the Taluka level.

Shri Modi pointed that the Foreign Minister of India is supposed to enhance the prestige of India across the world but his statements did the opposite. He criticized the Minister for insulting India’s Supreme Court and India’s Election Commission. Shri Modi called for respecting Institutions, saying it is the hallmark of a democracy.

Shri Ram Jethmalani praised Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion and said that he has in his mind selected Narendra Modi as the PM of India. He recalled his early days in India and how he came to this country as a refugee and went on to build his legal career with the blessings of people and youngsters. He was critical of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s foreign policy towards China. MDMK leader Shri Vaiko also showered praise on Shri Modi and affirmed that there is a tremendous Modi wave across India and that is evident in every village, town, hamlet and city. “Unprecedented results await us. Congress will be routed, will not even cross 100 and the BJP will cross 272 on its own,” said Shri Vaiko. Several lawyers and representatives from various Bar Councils of Delhi were present.
