Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit to Mauritius

After the successful and historic visit to Seychelles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down Mauritius on evening of March 11th for his two-day visit. Shri Modi was welcomed warmly at the airport with a ceremonial reception. Prime Minister of Mauritius Sir Anerood Jugnauth was present at the airport to receive Prime Minister Modi. As always he shared the moment of joy with all his admirers on twitter.

Shri Narendra Modi held extensive meetings with the President of Mauritius, Mr. Rajkeswur Purryag and other delegates the same evening.

Later, the Prime Minister along with the PM of Mauritius addressed the media. Shri Narendra Modi highlighted the special relations shared by both India and Mauritius that are deeply rooted in history. Expressing his gratefulness to be the Chief Guest of National Day of Mauritius on March 12th, Shri Narendra Modi said India and Mauritius have always stood in solidarity and support for each other. PM, Shri Modi also termed the agreement on the development of Agalega Island as a major stride in India-Mauritius cooperation in infrastructure sector.

On March 12th, the Prime Minister began his day by visiting the Ganga Talao in Mauritius. As soon as Shri Modi visited there, he recalled the holy River Ganga that flows through Varanasi. He also praised Mauritius for enriching Hindi literature.

Shri Narendra Modi greeted the people of Mauritius on their National Day. He also expressed his delight to have got the chance to address their National Assembly on the very same day as the Prime Minister of India.

Shri Modi, while giving his address to the National Assembly, remarked that Mauritius has always made smart choices; encouraged hard work and enterprise. Talking about the first cyber city construction supported by Former PM, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced for supporting a second such city in Mauritius. Shri Modi gladly mentioned that destinies of India and Mauritius were linked by currents of the Indian Ocean. The Prime Minister hoped that India-Mauritius relationship would always be a source of great joy and strength to the two countries.

Considering the Indian Ocean region to be one among the top policy priorities for both the nations, the Prime Minister expressed contentment about India being a proud partner of Mauritius. Prime Minister Narenda Modi attended the programme to mark the commissioning of the Barracuda, a ship in the service of the National Coast Guard of Mauritius.

Shri Narendra Modi also paid homage to the valiant Aapravasis for their human spirit and also described the Aapravsi Ghat as signifying the enduring links between India and Mauritius.

A civic reception was organised in Shri Narendra Modi’s honour. A large number of people drew together to watch and listen to the Indian Prime Minister. There was heavy downpour but the enthusiasm in the people couldn’t be minimised. The eagerly waiting crowd cheered more and more as they waited for the PM in the rain-fed weather. There were chants of “Modi Modi” soon after the PM arrived. Shri Modi himself was surprised to see such a huge gathering.

In the evening of March 12th, Shri Narendra Modi joined the National Day celebrations in Mauritius as the guest of honour. Before leaving for Sri Lanka, the next destination of his thee nation tour, he thanked the people of Mauritius for their warm hospitality and bestowing such love and affection.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of various development projects in Maharashtra worth over Rs 7600 crore, at around 1 PM, through video conference.

Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the upgradation of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur with a total estimated project cost of around Rs 7000 crore. It will serve as a catalyst for growth across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, aviation, tourism, logistics, and healthcare, benefiting Nagpur city and the wider Vidarbha region.

Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the New Integrated Terminal Building at Shirdi Airport worth over Rs 645 crore. It will provide world-class facilities and amenities for the religious tourists coming to Shirdi. The construction theme of the proposed terminal is based on the spiritual neem tree of Sai Baba.

In line with his commitment to ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare for all, Prime Minister will launch operationalization of 10 Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra located at Mumbai, Nashik, Jalna, Amravati, Gadchiroli, Buldhana, Washim, Bhandara, Hingoli and Ambernath (Thane). While enhancing the under graduate and post graduate seats, the colleges will also offer specialised tertiary healthcare to the people.

In line with his vision to position India as the "Skill Capital of the World," Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Mumbai, with an aim to create an industry-ready workforce with cutting-edge technology and hands-on training. Established under a Public-Private Partnership model, it is a collaboration between the Tata Education and Development Trust and Government of India. The institute plans to provide training in highly specialised areas like mechatronics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, industrial automation and robotics among others.

Further, Prime Minister will inaugurate the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) of Maharashtra. VSK will provide students, teachers, and administrators with access to crucial academic and administrative data through live chatbots such as Smart Upasthiti, Swadhyay among others. It will offer high-quality insights to schools to manage resources effectively, strengthen ties between parents and the state, and deliver responsive support. It will also supply curated instructional resources to enhance teaching practices and student learning.
