During Pariksha Pe Charcha, replying to parents who asked how to raise children in changing times and how to ensure that they are given good values, PM Modi suggested to not burden the children with their values.

“Students must be given values by their parents and family but sometimes we need to self-evaluate the situation. Children don’t need to follow the same value as their parents,” he said.

A teacher from Ludhiana, Pratibha Gupta, asked PM Modi, “How can we make students self-motivated to do their work on their own?”

Responding to the question, PM Modi said, “We must create a mould and then try to fit in our children. We make it a symbol of our social status. Often, parents set some goals in their mind, make some parameters and then we force the children to fulfil our aspirations and end up treating them as instruments. I suggest training them first, motivation will follow. Positive motivation augers well for the growth and development of youngsters,” PM Modi replied.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need of positive reinforcement and cautioned against negative motivation by scaring the child. He pointed out that with the active efforts of the elders, children find the light within as they observe the exemplary behaviour of the elders.
