Gandhinagar, Monday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today honoured prominent singers of Indian Classical Music with the prestigious Tana-Riri Music Award and Pt. Omkarnath Music Award, institute by the Government of Gujar, at a glittering ceremony at Girnar Hall of Swarnim Sankul-1 in the Sachivalaya here.

The Tana-Riri Award of the year 2012 was awarded to Smt. Kishori Amonkar and for the year 2013 and Begum Parveen Sultana. The Pundit Omkarnath Music Award of the year 2012 was given to Pundit Jasraj and for the year 2013 to Pundit Rajan and Sajan Mishra.

On the eve of this award ceremony, all of the five singers were honoured by the Chief Minister with copper plaque, shawls and Rs. 5 Lakh.

Praising all the honoured singers, the Chief Minister said that Government of Gujarat is forever committed to honour artists, musicians and litterateurs in their lifelong journey.

He said that the Indian classical music has incredible and unique heritage the whole world, but we could not make the world recognize such magnificence. The western music could shake the body but it is Indian music which can impress the mind. There is a unique co-ordination of each hourly rage (tune) and tala (beats) and rhythm in Indian music.

Mr. Modi said that music, art and literature should never be dependent to states. It is even not barred by any time limitations. The heritage of Indian music has been strengthened for over centuries and many “Gharanas” did accomplish its culture.

He heartily mentioned that the prestigious work and origin of Tana-Riri Music festival at Vadnagar where they were born.

In the beginning of this ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Culture, Mr. Ramanlal Vora gave outline about both of such prestigious awards, greeted the invitees and honoured singers.

On this occasion, Ministers Mr. Nitinbhai Patel, Mr. Bhupendrasinhji Chudasama, Minister of State Mr. Nanubhai Vanani and officials to the music sector of Gujarat were also present.

The Prime Minister highlighted that, on National Science Day, we celebrate the spirit of research, innovation, and scientific curiosity that drives our nation forward.

PM Modi stated that, “This day commemorates the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman”. The Prime Minister noted that this discovery placed Indian research firmly on the global map.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that our resolve to empower our youth, strengthen research ecosystems, and harness science and technology for national development and global good.
