Jambughoda, Sunday, April, 15 (Information Bureau): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has categorically said, It was unfortunate that sacrifices of a large number of martyrs, who laid their lives for the freedom of our Nation, have been deliberately erased by some elements, so that people no longer could remember their martyrdom. “I have come to this place to show repentance of the sins, committed by the past Governments, of erasing the memories of such mute martyrs”, he said.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, performed ground breaking ceremony of developmental works worth Rs. 8.5 crore, for tribal dominated Jambughoda taluka of Panchmahals district and paid rich tribute to five unsung heroes of tribal community, who sacrificed their lives, fighting against British rule, at a massive tribal rally, attended by thousands of tribal folk, held at Jambughoda, on Sunday.

“Martyrdom does not monopolize by a single family as deliberately and intentionally described by some people”, he said, while paying tribute to tribal martyrs Joriya Parmeshwar, Rupsingh Nayak, Galaliya Nayak, Ravjida Nayak and Babariya Galma Nayak, who were hanged to death on April, 16, 1868 by the British rulers in Jambughoda. The stories of rebellion and martyrdom by Gujarat’s tribal leaders against tyranny of foreign rulers that remained buried in the history, Chief Minister Narendra Modi unfolded the chapter about the valours of these five forgotten leaders from Jambughoda.

Shri. Modi said, State level Van Mahotsav of the current year would be celebrated at Mangadh hills of Panchmahals to commemorate the sacrifice of local martyr Govind Guru, who was shot dead by the British.

He christened primary school of Vadek, the native of Joriya, as Joriya Parmeshwar primary school and Dandiyapura primary school as Rupsingh Nayak primary school in the memory of the tribal heroes. He said that a memorial would be built in near future and a Tribal Martyr Day will be celebrated every year, in the memory of these tribal valours on April, 16th. He laid the foundation stone of a modern Panchayat Ghar, a high level bridge and a underground drainage scheme for Jambughoda town.

Ministers Jitendra Sukhadia, Jaydrath sinh Parmar, Jashwantsinh Bhabhor, MP Ramsinh Rathwa, youth and cultural activities secretary Bhagyesh Jha, MLAs and local leaders were present. Thousand of tribal folk gathered to pay tribute to their heroes. The family members of hanged martyrs were felicitated by the chief Minister.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi expressed delight at the release of a commemorative postal stamp in honour of Emperor Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar II (Suvaran Maran) by the Vice President of India, Thiru C.P. Radhakrishnan today.

Shri Modi noted that Emperor Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar II was a formidable administrator endowed with remarkable vision, foresight and strategic brilliance. He highlighted the Emperor’s unwavering commitment to justice and his distinguished role as a great patron of Tamil culture.
