PM’s telephonic conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, had a fruitful telephonic conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, on arrival in Frankfurt today, while returning to Delhi after the BRICS Summit in Brasilia.

The Prime Minister complimented the German Chancellor on the splendid victory of the German football team and also conveyed his good wishes to Chancellor Merkel on her 60th birthday which is today.

The Prime Minister conveyed that India regards Germany as a very important partner and that his Government will work closely with the German side to strengthen and deepen the bilateral strategic partnership.

He invited the German Chancellor to visit India in 2015 for the third meeting of the India Germany Consultations. She accepted his invitation. The two leaders also briefly discussed areas of bilateral cooperation including through skill development.

The German Chancellor has invited India to be a partner country at the Hanover trade fair in 2015. The two leaders agreed to meet at the earliest opportunity. Chancellor Merkel extended a standing invitation to the Prime Minister for an official bilateral visit to Germany.

The First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, H.E. Denis Manturov, called on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today.

First Deputy PM Manturov briefed PM on the progress in various areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, including trade and economic partnership, fertilizers, connectivity and people-to-people ties.

PM recalled the successful visit of President Putin to India in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.

He expressed satisfaction at the sustained efforts being made by both sides towards implementation of the outcomes from the Annual Summit, aimed at further strengthening the India- Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

PM extended warm greetings to President Putin and said that he looked forward to their continued exchanges.
