Key points from EAM Sushma Swaraj's address to the United Nations

EAM Sushma Swaraj addressed the United Nations General Assembly today. The EAM spoke about several global challenges like terrorism, climate change, maritime security, unemployment, gender empowerment, nuclear proliferation and cyber security.
 
On achieving target set for 2030,EAM Sushma Swaraj called for a sense of urgency and unshakable fortitude to take decisions to avert catastrophe. She said, "India has displayed courage & leadership to take tough decisions which have launched interlinked process of sustainable development."
 
Stressing on PM Modi's economic empowerment approach to eradicate poverty, EAM said, "We are turning them from job-seekers into job-providers." She spoke at length about several initiatives like the Jan Dhan Yojana, Mudra Yojana, Skill India, Ujjwala Yojana and Digital India. The EAM highlighted how these measures were transforming and strengthening the lives of people.
 
She also spoke about demonetisation and rollout of GST and how it has benefitted the country. EAM also praised inclusion of Global Partnership principle in SDGs and said that India had started, this year, the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.
 
Referring to Pakistan PM's statement in the UN, EAM Swaraj said, "On one hand India is fighting poverty and on the other side Pakistan is fighting against India." She further added, "PM Narendra Modi has offered the hand of peace and friendship. Pakistan’s Prime Minister must answer why his nation spurned this offer." She also termed Pakistan 'Masters of forgetting facts.'
 
Showing mirror to Pakistan EAM highlighted the glaring difference between India & Pakistan. EAM Swaraj said, "On one side India is working to create IITs, IIMs, AIIMs and prepare scholars but on the other side Pakistan is creating terror institutions like LeT, JeM, HM."

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The Prime Minister announced that an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of each of those who lost their lives in the tragic mishap. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

The Prime Minister’s Office posted on X;

“Pained to hear about the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.
