On comments made by the opposition on institutions like the CBI and RBI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Congress has no right to speak on this issue. For ten long years, the PMO was weakened and a NAC was formed. This was disrespecting institutions. What kind of empowerment of the PMO was this? Cabinet takes such a big decision and a big leader tears that Cabinet decision at a press conference. What kind of respect is for an institution?”

Speaking about the judiciary, PM Modi remarked that the Congress openly said that they will decide judiciary on the basis of ideology and senior judges were shown the door and junior judges were promoted. He said, “In the same RBI, several times Governors were forced to leave before their term expired.”

Further adding about the Planning Commission, the PM noted how the people in the Planning Commission were termed as a bunch of jokers. Do you know who the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission was then?” the PM said referring to what Mr. Rajiv Gandhi had said when Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Deputy Chairman.

Speaking about the infighting between the CBI number 1 and 2, the PM said that When CBI internal personal matter came to light, they were both asked to go on leave legally. “The institution is paramount for us”, he added.

Upon being questioned on Mr. Urjit Patel’s resignation, the PM said, “The RBI governor himself requested to resign because of personal reasons. He was telling me about this for the past 6-7 months before his resignation.” Declining that any political pressure was put on Mr. Patel, the PM said, “I acknowledge that Mr. Patel did a great job as RBI Governor.”
