Shri Narendra Modi visits Tarnetar fair

Shri Modi speaks about Government decision to turn every Kutcha house into a Pukka House in a step that will help the poor of the state

On 20th September 2012 Shri Narendra Modi visited the Tarnetar Fair in Surendranagar district. In his short address to the visitors he spoke about the Government’s decision to ensure every house is turned into a Pukka house.

Shri Modi said that he has asked the authorities to take photographs of Kucha Houses with their occupants and submit them to the Government so that they can be made in to Pukka Houses. This will help the people and also create employment opportunities in the state. He shared that the state has scaled new heights of development and that in the last decade the Government had constructed 16 lakh houses and is building 6 lakh additional houses. In addition, the Government has also given plots to the poor.

The Chief Minister spoke about the decision to raise the limit of developmental work that can be undertaken by Gram Panchayats from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh and stated that the Government also decided to give an allowance of Rs. 10,000 to Sarpanchs so that they can carry out their duties in the village.

On the occasion Shri Modi affirmed that this is a Government for the poor. He affirmed that on one hand Gujarat is moving ahead on the path of development whereas on the other hand the corruption of the Centre has ruined the nation. He took on the UPA for the coal scam. Mincing no words, Shri Modi said that corruption cannot be tolerated as it affected the common man first.

The Chief Minister spoke about the state Government’s efforts to promote sports in the state including setting up a Sports University and ensuring that every district has a sports school. He also spoke about the village Olympics. Shri Modi expressed joy that though late, the monsoon has brought tremendous relief to the famers, for which he thanked Almighty.

Dressed in a Talawadi turban and traditional waistcoat Shri Modi interacted with tourists and distributed prizes to the winners of the rural Olympics at the fair.

Cabinet Ministers Shri Vajubhai Vala, Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
