"The meeting with Shri Modi was pleasant, inspiring and satisfactory.: Shri Manoj Vora"
"I have always respected Shri Narendra Modi: Shri Manoj Vora"

On the morning of Saturday 1st June 2013 Shri Narendra Modi met Shri Manoj Vora, the first person of Gujarati origin to scale the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Speaking after the meeting with the Chief Minister, Shri Vora said that the meeting was very pleasant, inspiring and satisfying. Shri Vora shared that Shri Modi spoke to his family, heard a message from his parents and when his younger sister asked for an autograph, Shri Modi penned a short poem where he talked about Shri Vora’s feat. “It was out of the world, he (referring to Shri Modi) is so talented. I always respected him but it increased even more today,” Shri Vora pointed out.

Shri Vora said that Gujaratis have made a name for their advances in business but he also wanted to inspire them to climb peaks. He recalled that in 2003 he read a book called Seven Summits, which covered the experiences of Richard Bass, who scaled the seven highest peaks in the seven continents of the world in 1985. The book inspired him and he embarked on this journey to scale the Seven Summits in 2004. Finally, on 22nd May 2013, nine years after he started, Shri Vora scaled Mount Everest and thus scaled all the Seven Summits.

Hailing from a Jain, Vaniya and Vegetarian family, Shri Vora spoke about how his vegetarianism was not an impediment to scaling the peaks. He added that he has been in USA for the last 24 years but has remained a vegetarian. He said that he would remain a vegetarian for his entire life. Shri Vora pointed that it was the Namokar Mantra that kept in inspired and motivated him to scale the peaks.

In his message to the youth, Shri Vora stated that he wanted to inspire the youth to start dreaming big and work hard to realize their dreams. He urged them to help others once their own dreams are fulfilled.
