Gujarat increases DA by 8% for government employees and pensioners

 Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today announced increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Gujarat Government ‘karmayogis’ by 8 per cent from the existing 27 per cent to 35 per cent with effect from January 1, 2010. 

The karmayogis would be disbursed increased DA from April 1 in cash, while the difference in the DA for the period from January 1 to March 31, 2010 would be deposited in their Provident Fund Accounts. Shri Modi also announced a similar 8 per cent increase in the DA of pensioners on a temporary basis.

The welcome decision would benefit about 4.91-lakh karmayogis and 3.25-lakh pensioners, costing the State Exchequer additional Rs.687-crore and Rs.247-crore respectively, totalling Rs.934-crore.

The Prime Minister remarked today that it was a matter of immense pride for India that Archbishop George Koovakad will be created as a Cardinal by His Holiness Pope Francis.

The Prime Minister’s Office handle in a post on X said:

“It is a matter of immense pride for India that Archbishop George Koovakad will be created as a Cardinal by His Holiness Pope Francis.

The Government of India sent a delegation led by Union Minister Shri George Kurian to witness this Ceremony.

Prior to the Ceremony, the Indian delegation also called on His Holiness Pope Francis.
