Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the National Digital Health Mission from the Red Fort, while addressing the nation on the 74th Independence Day. He said that it would revolutionise the health sector in the country.

PM Modi said that the National Digital Health Mission would be a completely technology-based initiative and every Indian would get a Health ID card that would contain all relevant information about an individual’s medical conditions.

“Every time you visit a doctor or a pharmacy, everything will be logged in this card. From the doctor's appointment to the medication, everything will be available in your health profile,” PM Modi added.

The Prime Minister mentioned about the rapid upgradation of healthcare infrastructure to tackle the COVID-19 menace. He said that from one test lab, there were now over 1,400 labs across India, which were testing more than seven lakh samples for COVID-19. PM Modi also spoke about the increase in number of seats for MBBS and MD, development of new medical colleges and AIIMS across the country.
