Shri Modi talks about the development initiatives in Gujarat over the last 10 years

On the evening of Friday 21st December 2012 Shri Narendra Modi thanked the people of Maninagar for reposing faith in him and electing him as their MLA in the just held Gujarat Elections 2012. He addressed a large public meeting there and spoke at length about the development initiatives in Gujarat. Shri Modi has been elected from Maninagar with margin of 86,000 votes.

Shri Modi said, “In the elections due to your support and affection the BJP has secured a big win. I have come here to accept the wishes of the voters of Maninagar. I have come here to thank you.” Lauding the farsight of the voters of Maninagar the Chief Minister pointed out, “The voters of Maninagar never believed they are choosing their MLA only. They knew they are voting for the future of Gujarat.”

He thanked the party Karyakartas and stated that each Karyakarta worked hard and had their feet firmly on the ground. He shared that the Election Commission has different arrangements for VIP seats but due to the people here, there were no problems in Maninagar and all systems were followed.

Shri Modi said that Sushasan and Vikas are two very important pillars. He added that Mahatma Gandhi gave us Swarajya but unfortunately we have not been able to make the move towards Surajya.

He gave examples of the development that has taken place over the last decade. He recalled, “Earlier go to the other side of the river, it was a different Ahmedabad, this was a different Ahmedabad. Today the development of Ahmedabad’s Eastern areas is same as that of Ahmedabad’s western area.” Shri Modi further gave the example of the Kankaria carnival and pointed out how the entire area has changed and how the Kankaria Carnival has got more and more people to the Kankaria Lake. He talked about the success of the Ahmedabad BRTS.

Similarly, Shri Modi affirmed, “We have vibrant cotton production but if it does not reach the world market then farmers will not get any gain” and added that due to the policies of the Centre the cotton farmers of Gujarat lost Rs. 7000 crore per year. Shri Modi said that the Gujarat Government found a way and that is a New Textile Policy- he explained the 5F formula of farm-fibre-fabric-fashion-foreign. He also stated that textile industry would be a major focus during the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit 2013.

Shri Modi pointed out that with an integrated approach a lot of things can happen. He said that the Gujarat Government started the Kanya Kelavani Abhiyan and 100% enrollment was achieved, then Gunotsav was started to bring a qualitative change in education. After that schools were given complete electricity and computers and now the Government has asked the Centre for satellite to impart long distance education.

Shri Modi affirmed that the BJP Government in Gujarat is connected with the hearts of the people and it gives importance to creating opportunities for them. He expressed confidence that the work in the coming years will be much faster and will take the state to much newer heights.

BJP National Vice President Shri Purushottam Rupala, Gujarat BJP President Shri RC Faldu, MLA Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Ahmedabad Mayor Shri Asit Vora among others were present at the occasion.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will undertake a visit to Assam on 20-21 December. On 20th December, at around 3 PM, Prime Minister will reach Guwahati, where he will undertake a walkthrough and inaugurate the New Terminal Building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

On 21st December, at around 9:45 AM, Prime Minister will pay tribute to martyrs at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati. After that, he will travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh, Assam, where he will perform Bhoomi Pujan for the Ammonia-Urea Project of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

Prime Minister will inaugurate the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, marking a transformative milestone in Assam’s connectivity, economic expansion and global engagement.

The newly completed Integrated New Terminal Building, spread over nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, is designed to handle up to 1.3 crore passengers annually, supported by major upgrades to the runway, airfield systems, aprons and taxiways.

India’s first nature-themed airport terminal, the airport’s design draws inspiration from Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage under the theme “Bamboo Orchids”. The terminal makes pioneering use of about 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo, complemented by Kaziranga-inspired green landscapes, japi motifs, the iconic rhino symbol and 57 orchid-inspired columns reflecting the Kopou flower. A unique “Sky Forest”, featuring nearly one lakh plants of indigenous species, offers arriving passengers an immersive, forest-like experience.

The terminal sets new benchmarks in passenger convenience and digital innovation. Features such as full-body scanners for fast, non-intrusive security screening, DigiYatra-enabled contactless travel, automated baggage handling, fast-track immigration and AI-driven airport operations ensure seamless, secure and efficient journeys.

Prime Minister will visit the Swahid Smarak Kshetra to pay homage to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, a six-year-long people’s movement that embodied the collective resolve for a foreigner-free Assam and the protection of the State’s identity.

Later in the day, Prime Minister will perform Bhoomipujan of the new brownfield Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project at Namrup, in Dibrugarh, Assam, within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).

Furthering Prime Minister’s vision of Farmers’ Welfare, the project, with an estimated investment of over Rs. 10,600 crore, will meet fertilizer requirements of Assam and neighbouring states, reduce import dependence, generate substantial employment and catalyse regional economic development. It stands as a cornerstone of industrial revival and farmer welfare.
