Shri Modi felicitated for declaring Gir-Somnath as a separate district in Una

Shri Modi speaks on Britain’s decision to strengthen relations with Gujarat

Is a Minister is facing allegations and the Government comes out in defense it is understandable. But, why is the whole Government coming out to defend a person who is not in Government? Asks Shri Modi

Shri Narendra Modi was felicitated at Una Town in Junagadh district for declaring a separate Gir-Somnath district. Shri Modi’s speech included a sharp attack on the Government’s continued defending of Mr. Robert Vadra and the decision of the British Government to strengthen relations with Gujarat.

Shri Modi on Britain’s decision to strengthen relations with Gujarat

The Chief Minister welcomed the decision of the British Government to strengthen relations with Gujarat. He said that Britain and the rest of Europe put restrictions on Gujarat. But several other developed nations from Canada, Japan to Australia have befriended Gujarat. China has befriended Gujarat and has understood that without befriending Gujarat, friendship with India is incomplete.

Thus, with these countries keeping relations with Gujarat, Shri Modi stated that Europe thought they are left behind and hence this decision.

CM speaks on UPA’s continued defending of Mr. Robert Vadra

Shri Modi raised serious questions over the UPA’s continued defending of UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Mr. Robert Vadra. He said that if a Minister is facing allegations and the Government comes out in defense it is understandable. But, why is the whole Government coming out to defend a person who is not in Government?

Similarly, one can understand if his family decides to speak in his defense but again, why must the Government become so proactive on the same? Is it that the Government was in the know? Is it directly involved? He further called for the need to explain the role of the Government.

Yesterday, Shri Modi had said that when there is a terror attack there is one spokesperson of UPA speaking but for the son in law of a family the entire Government is coming out to speak!

Gir-Somnath District

In August this year Shri Modi announced the creation of a separate Gir-Somnath District.

The district will be carved out of the existing Junagadh District and will consist of 6 Talukas. The new district will come into effect from 26th January 2013.

Khushboo Gujarat Ki - Somnath
Khushboo Gujarat Ki -Gir

While announcing the creation of the district, Shri Modi had said, “the Government will come closer to you. Administration will be now at your doorstep. You will not have to travel to Junagadh for government works.”

The demand for this new district had been there for quite some time and it was Shri Modi who created this district to enable quicker redressal of people’s grievances.

This announcement by Mr. Modi was instantly hailed across all sections. On August 21st people hailing from the proposed district met the Chief Minister to personally thank him for his step to create the new district.

Proposed Gir-Somnath district will be an important place on Gujarat’s tourist map. It will home to the iconic Somnath Temple that draws millions of devotees from all over India and the world. It will also be home to the Asiatic Lion.

Prime Minister will plant a Banyan sapling under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative. This will be part of the ‘Aravalli Green Wall project’ which aims to reforest the 700-km Aravalli range.

The project is a major initiative to spread green cover in the 5 km buffer area around the Aravalli Hill Range in 29 districts of four states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat. It aims to boost biodiversity of the Aravallis through afforestation, reforestation and restoration of water bodies. It also aims to improve the soil fertility, water availability and climate resilience of the region. The project will also be of benefit to the local communities by providing them with employment and income generation opportunities.

Prime Minister will also flag off 200 Electric Buses under Delhi Government's sustainable transport initiative, promoting clean urban mobility and symbolizing the nation’s collective responsibility towards ecological balance.
