PM Narendra Modi campaigned in Varanasi today. Addressing a huge gathering, Shri Narendra Modi thanked them for the affection people of the state have ushered. Quoting Mark Twain, Shri Modi said that Banaras was older than history and tradition.

The Prime Minister said BJP’s aim was of a Banaras that was modern yet one that retained its heritage. He added further, “Our mantra is Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas but SP, BSP & Congress believes in Kuch Ka Sath, Kuch Ka Hi Vikas.”

Shri Modi said that eastern part of India has to scale new heights of development and then only overall progress of the country would happen. He remarked, “This land of Uttar Pradesh, this part of the state is blessed with very talented people. The potential for development is immense.”

Citing that Uttar Pradesh had been gripped in corruption, the Prime Minister opined, “Shouldn't corruption come to an end? It’s been so many years since we attained freedom but a small section misused their power and position.” He said that the Central Government would continue to undertake measures that would fight corruption. He also said that the Government would ensure that rights of the honest citizens are protected.

Shri Modi further stated, “Earlier the question being asked would be- how much money was lost (in the scams), now the question is- how much money has returned back.”

Shri Modi complemented the armed forces for the successful surgical strikes across the LoC. He said, “We are proud of our jawans. They have made the entire nation proud. It is sad that driven by politics, some people wanted proof of surgical strikes and were asking did any Indian soldier die.” He also spoke at length about OROP and how previous government neglected the difficulties of the ex-servicemen.

PM Modi stressed on infrastructure development in Kashi and said, “We wanted to build a ring road but the state government did not cooperate and kept obstructing that. They did not cooperate.”

The PM also shed light on Government’s aim of housing for all by 2022. “Every Indian should have his or her own home by 2022. It is sad that so many years after independence also people do not have homes. We have undertaken measures so that everyone have their homes.”
