Recollecting an instance during election of Vice-Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that PM Modi sat in the lobby outside the hall where the electoral processes were taking place and refused to go inside. This exemplary move even surprised Meghwal. He said PM Modi did this as he was a Lok Sabha member and elections were being held for the Vice Chair of the Upper House.
In a video Meghwal recalled that it was his duty to escort PM Modi to the Rajya Sabha on the day of election of Vice-Chairman Harivansh Ji. When he met PM Modi, the Prime Minister asked whether the electoral processes were over. He asked the Minister to track the news on TV and inform him once the processes were over so they could leave for the Parliament.
“The PM asked me to keep a watch on TV news to monitor as and when the Rajya Sabha election process gets over. Sometime later I urged him that by the time we reach, it would be over. We were about to enter the hall but he was briefed that the electoral processes were still going on. Instantly he decided not to go inside and instead chose to sit in the lobby outside. The Marshal came and told him that PM can go. But PM Modi refused saying I’m a member of Lok Sabha and hence can’t go inside as election processes are being held for the Vice-Chair of Rajya Sabha. Such simplicity and commitment of the PM towards Parliamentary procedures... It made me ecstatic,” said Meghwal.
