Shri Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to revered leader of Dawoodi Bohra community His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb, who passed away on the morning of Friday, 17th January, 2014.

Shri Modi profoundly remembered his association with the spiritual leader and expressed deep sadness at his demise. Terming it as a great loss for the society, Shri Modi said that the revered spiritual leader would be remembered as a great man who devoted his life in bringing smiles on peoples’ faces and spreading the message of peace and harmony.

Shri Modi also recounted His Holiness’ association with Gujarat and expressed gratitude by mentioning that Gujarat was fortunate to have got his blessings in its development journey.

Shri Narendra Modi had wished the eminent spiritual leader on his 102nd birthday in March 2013.  He had described the leader as a divine light and a directing force not only for the Dawoodi Bohra community but also for the entire humanity, while also adding that Syedna Saheb’s followers had progressed by leaps and bounds under the aegis of his principles and inspiration.

PM to inaugurate 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth on 15th January

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) on 15th January 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi. Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion.

The Conference will be chaired by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla and will be attended by 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers of 42 Commonwealth countries and 4 semi-autonomous parliaments from different parts of the world.

The Conference will deliberate on a wide range of contemporary parliamentary issues, including the role of Speakers and Presiding Officers in maintaining strong democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on Members of Parliament, innovative strategies to enhance public understanding of Parliament and citizen participation beyond voting, among others.
