3,000 officials to evaluate 2-lakh teachers and 60-lakh students in 32,274 government primary schools in Gujarat during ‘Gunotsav’ Nov 24-26

Gandhinagar, Thursday: The entire Council of Ministers, led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, IAS officers and 3,000-odd officials will participate in the 3rd ‘Gunotsav’ campaign to evaluate 2-lakh teachers and 60-lakh students pursuing studies in 32,274 government primary schools in Gujarat for three days from November 24 to 26, 2011.

Addressing a review meeting of Gunotsav here today, the Chief Minister said the statewide Gunotsav campaign, launched three years back with a view to achieving qualitative improvement at the primary school stage, has become a subject of study at the national level.

The Chief Minister recalled how the Gujarat Government’s two earlier novel campaigns – Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Yatra – have resulted in achieving 100 per cent enrolment in primary schools in the state, with 80 per cent eligible students being on continued roll. Gunotsav is the next mission for qualitative improvement of primary education. It is to build a strong future generation, starting from the primary schools stage itself, creating public awareness and providing physical facilities in schools.

He said the mission is to identify and recognize best teachers by inspectors of CRC and BRC cadres to encourage others to follow suit. It has inbuilt provision for self-assessment by teachers as well. He exuded confidence that upgrading Gujarat’s primary education would soon become a model for others to emulate.

Speaking at the meeting, Education Minister Ramanlal Vora said that Gujarat is the only state in the country which has adopted a system for ranking and gradation of primary schools on different parameters of imparting education. He said that Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavni Yatra launched in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Narendra Modi have spread education in the state by 15 per cent and have drastically reduced dropout rate in primary schools.

Primary Education Secretary R.P. Gupta made a detailed audiovisual presentation on the campaign at the meeting. Prominent among those present at the meeting included Minister of State for Education Jaisinh Chauhan, Chief Secretary A.K. Joti, State Project Director Manoj Agrawal, other ministers and MLA’s.
