Sardar Patel symbol of national unity and integration: Shri Modi

Sardar Patel honored with the Bharat Ratna as late as in 1991when it should have happened earlier: CM

Had nation adopted Sardar Patel’s Disha, Dasha of the country would not be what it is today: Shri Modi

On the 137th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shri Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to him and called the symbol of national unity and integration. Shri Modi said that the entire nation pays tributes to Sardar Patel. He garlanded the state of Sardar Patel in the Vidhan Sabha complex.

The Chief Minister said that the biggest tribute to Sardar Patel comes when people say in times of crisis, “If only Sardar Patel was there…”

Shri Modi affirmed that it was unfortunate for the nation that those in whose hands India’s leadership passed on did great injustice to him. He stated that Sardar Patel was honored with the Bharat Ratna as late as in 1991 when ideally he should have been given that honor a lot earlier.

He said that has the nation walked on the path shown by Sardar Patel and followed his Disha the plight (Durdasha) of the nation would not be what it is today.

Several dignitaries of the Government were present on the occasion.

CM Pays Tribute to Sardar Patel on his Blog

Earlier in the day Shri Modi shared a Blog as a tribute to Sardar Patel. In the Blog post titled, ‘A Great Son of Gujarat, a Towering Leader of India- Tributes to Sardar Patel’ Shri Modi wrote that Sardar Patel put to action the principles shown by Mahatma Gandhi. He said that to compare Sardar Patel with anyone else is being unfair to Sardar Patel himself.

Shri Modi noted his role in the integration of the princely states and called Sardar Patel a true Satyagrahi who gave great importance to probity and personal integrity. He also added that if Sardar Patel had got a free hand in dealing with Kashmir, things would be very different today.

In his Blog Shri Modi shared a video about the Statue of Unity, the Gujarat Government’s tribute to Sardar Patel in the form of a statue envisioned as a spot capturing the unity and integrity of India.
