Prime Minister’s meeting with Prof. Robert Thurman, American Buddhist scholar and academic

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met Prof. Robert Thurman, American Buddhist scholar, author, and Padma Shri awardee, today, in New York, USA.

Prime Minister and Prof Thurman exchanged perspectives on how Buddhist values can act as guiding light for finding solutions to global challenges. They also discussed India’s Buddhist connect and efforts being made by India for preservation of Buddhist heritage.

Prime Minister shares Sanskrit Subhashitam highlighting significance of mutual dependence

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam-

“प्रभया हि विना यद्वद् भानुरेष न विद्यते।

प्रभा च भानुना तेन सुतरां तदुपाश्रया॥”

The Subhashitam conveys that just as the Sun cannot be perceived without its light, so too light cannot exist without the Sun. Thus, the entire existence and power of the Sun and its light are entirely dependent upon each other.

The Prime Minister wrote on X;

प्रभया हि विना यद्वद् भानुरेष न विद्यते।

प्रभा च भानुना तेन सुतरां तदुपाश्रया॥
