The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today inaugurated the Integrated Terminal Building of Vadodara Airport.Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of air connectivity for the economy, and the tourism sector in particular. He said the Union Government had unveiled an aviation policy which envisaged the future direction and growth of this sector.

The Prime Minister said that Vadodara Airport had now become the second eco-friendly airport in the country, after Kochi.

Speaking after distributing aids and assistive devices to Divyang, the Prime Minister said the requirements of the Divyang must always be kept in mind while creating infrastructure. He said the Union Government has accorded the highest priority to ensuring that the benefits of its schemes and initiatives reach the intended beneficiaries. He said initiatives for the Dalits and the marginalized are at the centre-stage in the working of the Union Government.

The Prime Minister said development is the key to solving all problems related to poverty, lack of education and access to healthcare.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation today with His Excellency Mr. Matemela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.

The two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation, which is anchored in historic and strong people-to-people ties. Prime Minister thanked the South African President for the relocation of 12 Cheetahs to India earlier this year.

They also exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in BRICS in the context of South Africa’s chairmanship this year.

President Ramaphosa briefed PM on the African Leaders’ Peace Initiative. Noting that India was supportive of all initiatives aimed at ensuring durable peace and stability in Ukraine, PM reiterated India’s consistent call for dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward.

President Ramaphosa conveyed his full support to India’s initiatives as part of its ongoing G20 Presidency and that he looked forward to his visit to India.

The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.
