Our decisions are not taken by a High Command in Delhi. The people of India are our high command: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive public meeting in the city of Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu today.

PM Modi began by reminiscing about the ancient roots of the Tamil people, their language, culture and its heritage in India. He further acknowledged and applauded the great political leaders of Tamil Nadu, former CM Smt. Jayalalithaa and Sh. MGR, whose statue was also inaugurated on this occasion by Prime Minister Modi. PM Modi then added, “MGR is one of the most respected icons of India. He worked exclusively for the downtrodden and his social welfare schemes gave the strength to fight poverty. So, I am happy to tell two things: One, that our government has decided to rename the Chennai Central Station after the great son of this land, MGR and secondly, we are also seriously thinking about ensuring that flights to and from Tamil Nadu have in-flight announcements in the Tamil language.”

PM Modi further described several major decisions and schemes at the national level which are showing tremendous potential to bring about positive impact in the lives of millions of Indians and said that it is a matter of pride for all Tamil people that India has committed to construct fourteen thousand houses for Indian-origin Tamils in Sri Lanka. Similarly, almost nineteen hundred fishermen from Sri Lanka have returned home to Tamil Nadu due to the consistent efforts of the government. A few of them were also facing the death sentence but, the government ensured with the cooperation of the Government of Sri Lanka that they returned to India. PM Modi also talked about the record improvements in India’s tourism sector, which will significantly benefit the economy of Tamil Nadu as well as the major defence corridor which will boost the local economy in the state as well as enhance the country’s defence capabilities.

Taking on the Opposition parties for their years of mis-governance and dynastic politics, PM Modi said, “The careless conduct of the Opposition on national security is very well known. Guided by politics and selfish interests, they neither want a strong India nor strong armed forces. Congress and their allies can never fulfil regional aspirations because their decisions are guided by the culture of command and Family First. Supporting Congress and their allies means decisions will be taken sitting in air-conditioned rooms in Delhi, not in the villages of Tamil Nadu. Congress also insults strong regional leaders. The people of Tamil Nadu will never forget how one family insulted K. Kamaraj. On the other hand, our decisions are not taken by a High Command in Delhi. The people of India are our high command. Our track record shows that the NDA is best placed to fulfil regional aspirations.”

Concluding his wide-ranging address to the large number of supporters, PM Modi said that the country witnessed rapid development during the last five years after several years of corrupt governance prevalent during Congress rule. He further described his government’s approach over various issues saying, “Our priorities are India First. Our policies put People First. In the last four and half years, a lot has been done and with the people’s blessings, we want to do a lot more.”
