Day 1 of Shri Modi’s Japan visit sees the Chief Minister meet top political leadership of Japan

After the Seminar, Shri Modi engages with the media on multiple domestic and international issues


The first day of Shri Narendra Modi’s historic Japan trip was a hectic and fruitful one as he met the top echelons of Japan’s political leadership and attended the Investment Seminar of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). In between, he also interacted with the media in a comprehensive interview during which he spoke of a range of issues.

Shri Modi met with Mr. Yukio Edano, the Minister for Trade and Industry. During the interaction the Chief Minister also presented the Honorable Minister with a copy of his book ‘Convenient Action’ that talks about how Gujarat has been mitigating the challenge of climate change.

The Chief Minister met former Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe. Mr. Abe is a senior politician who served as the Prime Minister of Japan from 2006-2007. It may be recalled that when Shri Modi visited Japan in 2007 he had met Mr. Abe who was the PM then.

Another dignitary who met Shri Modi on his first day was Mr. Koichiro Gemba, Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs.


Shri Modi also met Mr. Yuichiro Hata, the Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.


In the evening, Shri Modi attended the JETRO Investment Seminar. In an inspiring Speech, the Chief Minister touched upon a variety of issues from economic cooperation to the deep-rooted ties between India and Japan. He said that both India and Japan have historic relations with Lord Buddha being a guiding force. He termed the ties between Gujarat and Japan as a regular affair and thanked JETRO for the positive role it had played in strengthening ties between Gujarat and Japan. He added that he wanted to create a ‘mini Japan’ in Gujarat in a way that the people of Japan would feel as if they have come to their own out house.

Speaking to the media after the JETRO seminar, Shri Modi touched on a variety of issues. He said he was honored by the special reception he had received at the hands of the Japanese authorities. He spoke about the uniqueness of the Gujarat model of development adding that policies in Gujarat are thought of with a long-term basis for the good of all. He expressed happiness that the Gujarat model of development has been acknowledged both in India and across the world.

During the interaction, Shri Modi said that his duty is to serve the 60 million people of Gujarat who had reposed faith in the Government and work towards securing a fresh mandate from the people as the state goes to the polls December this year. He expressed confidence that a BJP-led NDA Government would come to power whenever elections were held.

Shri Modi was also asked about the violence at Manesar, which he termed as unfortunate. He added that he is confident that the Government of Haryana would find a solution to the on going problems.
