Nation shamed over India’s suspension by the IOC

Shri Modi calls it an insult to the nation’s youth, questions UPA stoic silence on the issue

If scams worth thousands of crores, loot, price rise and policy paralysis were not enough, the Congress-led UPA Government has given us yet another reason to be ashamed!

On 4th December 2012 the news came in that India has been suspended from the International Olympic Committee and yet another slap on the people of India especially our youth was complete. As usual we got nothing but a stoic silence form the UPA.

Shri Narendra Modi expressed unhappiness at this dark moment in the history of Indian sport and took the UPA head on the issue. Shri Modi pointed out that this is news that would make us feel ashamed.

He declared, “A nation of 120 crore people, the world’s most youthful nation where 65% of the population is under 35 was suspended from the Olympics- Doob Maro Congress Mitro Doob Maro!” He added that this shameful suspension is a big blot that has happened due to the sins of the UPA.

Shri Modi said that the Centre may or may not do anything but the Gujarat Government will not take this lying down. He shared the state Government’s decision to create a Sport’s University and every district will have a Sports School.

The promotion of sports and a spirit of sportsmanship is a matter of great importance for Shri Modi. For the last 10 years, Gujarat has made several advances in the promotion of sports especially among the youth. Shri Modi envisions sports as a mass movement that can contribute to the development of Gujarat.

Shri Modi is the driving force behind Khel Mahakumbh, a sports extravaganza where lakhs of people take part in various sporting events. 2011 Khel Mahakumbh witnessed a record participation of 18 lakh athletes including 60,000 specially abled athletes. He firmly believes in Mantra, “Jo Khele, Woh Khile (He who plays, shines!) and taking that ahead he has embarked on making Gujarat a land where sports and sportsman both shine.

Yet again, when the UPA disappoints, we see a ray of hope coming from Gujarat!
