Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Government have made amendments in Prohibition law. Government has used a stringent approach by introducing capital punishment for hooch criminals.

Gujarat is the first state to introduce capital punishment in prohibition law.

According to the new law a death statement can be pronounced for those found guilty in hooch crimes.

An inquiry commission has been asked to probe in and investigate the case of the recent past against the criminals of the hooch tragedy.

Criminals indulging in hooch business leading to deaths of people will get capital punishment. In any case, punishment will not be less than seven years.

The law would also have provision for one-year imprisonment for police officials responsible for hooch crimes or any serious offence related to Prohibition.

In Congress Government's rule in the past 25 such hooch incidents had taken place and cases against 354 criminals were filed but no serious steps were taken.
