Indian contingent wins 173 medals at Special Olympic World Summer Games 2015

The performance of Indian contingent at the 2015 Special World Summer Games has been outstanding. A total of 173 medals, including 47 Gold, 54 Silver and 72 Bronze have been won by our athletes. In comparison India had won 156 medals (56 Gold, 48 Silver and 52 Bronze) in the last edition of the games held at Athens, Greece. 

The 2015 Special Olympic World Summer Games were held in Los Angeles, USA from 25th July to 02nd August, 2015.  The games featured competitions in 25 disciplines. US first lady Michelle Obama joined the opening ceremony held on 25th July, 2015.

The Indian contingent comprised 275 athletes and coaches in 14 Discipline.  In comparison 236 members had participated in the last edition of the games held from 19th June to 05th July, 2011 at Athens, Greece.  

Some of the outstanding performances of our athletes include the stellar performance of Shri Ranvir Singh Saini, who created history by becoming the first Indian Golfer to won a gold medal in the Games. Roller skating athletes won a total of 39 medals, which include 10 Gold, 17 Silver and 12 Bronze.  Such a large number of medals have been won for the first time. Our athletes won a total of 47 medals in Athletics, which is the main contribution to the overall medal tally.  

These efforts have truly made India proud. 

It may be recalled that Shri Narendra Modi, as Chief Minister undertook several efforts to promote sports and sportsmanship. The Special Olympics Family had written to Shri Narendra Modi in 2011, appreciating the efforts of the Gujarat Government, for the step to enable specially abled athletes to participate in the Khel Mahakumbh.

Cabinet approves two multitracking projects covering Four Districts across Odisha and Jharkhand, increasing the existing network of Indian Railways by about 145 Kms

The total estimated cost of the projects is Rs 3,907 crore (approx.) and will be completed up to 2030-31

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today has approved 02 (Two) projects of Ministry of Railways with total cost of Rs.3,907 crore (approx.). These projects include:

  1. Paradeep – Haridaspur - Doubling
  2. Rajkharsawan – Dangoaposi - 4th Line

The increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. These multi-tracking proposals are poised to streamline operations and alleviate congestion. The projects are in line with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji’s Vision of a New India which will make people of the region “Atmanirbhar” by way of comprehensive development in the area which will enhance their employment/ self-employment opportunities.

The projects are planned on PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan with focus on enhancing multi-modal connectivity & logistic efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder consultations. These projects will provide seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods, and services.

The 02 (Two) projects covering 04 Districts across the States of Odisha and Jharkhand will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 145 Kms.

The proposed multi-tracking project will enhance connectivity to approx. 1,526 villages, which are having a population of about 14 lakhs.

The proposed capacity enhancement will improve rail connectivity to several prominent tourist destinations across the country, including Lalitgiri Buddhist Complex, Shree Baladevjew Temple, Meghahatuburu Hills, etc.

The proposed projects are essential routes for transportation of commodities such as coal, iron ore, dolomite, limestone, gypsum, etc. The capacity augmentation works will result in additional freight traffic of magnitude 44 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum). The Railways being environment friendly and energy efficient mode of transportation, will help both in achieving climate goals and minimizing logistics cost of the country, reduce oil import (06 Crore Litres) and lower CO2 emissions (29 Crore Kg) which is equivalent to plantation of 01 (One) Crore trees.
