Narendra Modi addressed the students on the occassion of first convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University.

As far as the financial crisis is concerned as situations change, within 2-5 years, we can solve that problem but if we are to save mankind from the energy crisis, if we want to get the world out of it, it is incumbent upon us that we take a long view with a holistic approach and give a rethink to the energy sector. And at the world level take strides in a new direction and come up with a battle plan so as to save humanity from this impending calamitous occurrence. If you want to fight these problems only energy sources will not get you the solution. If we want to tackle these problems then we must utilize these energy sources efficiently and we will also need a human resources chain, able youth will be required to work for energy management, and hence to tackle the energy crisis just as energy sources is an important field in the same manner those who are concerned with human resources management in this field are just as important. And Gujarat understanding the long term necessity for this founded the Pandit Deendayal University.

Inspired by the thoughts of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay we work for the cause of humanity. In the last century Gandhi, Lohia and Deendayal, three thinkers for India's future, believing in the important principles of loving our environment, thinking about the happiness of the most downtrodden in society, all encompassing development and serving Daridra Narayan, had tried to show the way to development. As this university has been named after Pandit Deendayal, when the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) discovered India's biggest gas fields, we announced that the income that would accrue from the first well would be utilized for India's poor and we'd use it to serve Daridra Narayan as a thought befitting him. Today it makes me proud that thanks to this university that has been named after that
mahapurush (great man) we are dedicating to our country this human capital, this human prosperity, this youth power. Youth power will help the world in the management of the crisis it is going through by making use of its education, its experience and its knowledge. I wish all these student friends who're about to begin their new life well and many congratulations to you all.

Pandit Deendayal University is popularly known as the Petroleum University. When we'd first begun it, we'd thought then that as Gujarat is emerging as the Petro-capital of India we will need people who take a special interest in these matters but as we've taken this work forward we've realized that though the name may simply remain Petroleum University, this university must be ready to encompass the entire energy sector - be it solar energy or nuclear energy, in all these sectors we must do research and with the aim of taking mankind forward this university progresses,

I had once written a letter to the Prime Minister and I had requested him that in the way that different countries have their organizations such as the G8 summit, the OPEC meet, the SAARC meet, why doesn't India take the lead and bring together countries which benefit from a great deal of sunlight. Those countries where solar energy can be utilized optimally should come together, make a corpus fund and set aside money for research to develop the easiest and cheapest methods so that humanity may profit from solar energy. I believe that the day is not far away when India takes the lead in bringing together these solar surplus countries as well as in the solar power sector and Gujarat's Petroleum University will also contribute greatly. We shall lead the world in a new direction.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will undertake a visit to Assam on 20-21 December. On 20th December, at around 3 PM, Prime Minister will reach Guwahati, where he will undertake a walkthrough and inaugurate the New Terminal Building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

On 21st December, at around 9:45 AM, Prime Minister will pay tribute to martyrs at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati. After that, he will travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh, Assam, where he will perform Bhoomi Pujan for the Ammonia-Urea Project of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

Prime Minister will inaugurate the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, marking a transformative milestone in Assam’s connectivity, economic expansion and global engagement.

The newly completed Integrated New Terminal Building, spread over nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, is designed to handle up to 1.3 crore passengers annually, supported by major upgrades to the runway, airfield systems, aprons and taxiways.

India’s first nature-themed airport terminal, the airport’s design draws inspiration from Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage under the theme “Bamboo Orchids”. The terminal makes pioneering use of about 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo, complemented by Kaziranga-inspired green landscapes, japi motifs, the iconic rhino symbol and 57 orchid-inspired columns reflecting the Kopou flower. A unique “Sky Forest”, featuring nearly one lakh plants of indigenous species, offers arriving passengers an immersive, forest-like experience.

The terminal sets new benchmarks in passenger convenience and digital innovation. Features such as full-body scanners for fast, non-intrusive security screening, DigiYatra-enabled contactless travel, automated baggage handling, fast-track immigration and AI-driven airport operations ensure seamless, secure and efficient journeys.

Prime Minister will visit the Swahid Smarak Kshetra to pay homage to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, a six-year-long people’s movement that embodied the collective resolve for a foreigner-free Assam and the protection of the State’s identity.

Later in the day, Prime Minister will perform Bhoomipujan of the new brownfield Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project at Namrup, in Dibrugarh, Assam, within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).

Furthering Prime Minister’s vision of Farmers’ Welfare, the project, with an estimated investment of over Rs. 10,600 crore, will meet fertilizer requirements of Assam and neighbouring states, reduce import dependence, generate substantial employment and catalyse regional economic development. It stands as a cornerstone of industrial revival and farmer welfare.
