There seems to be no end to the reach and range of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s new 3D hologram campaigns. On December 4, the tech-savvy, early-adopter BJP leader will address 52 simultaneous election rallies across the State in the third such landmark event.
On November 18, Modi started on his 3D journey by addressing 4 simultaneous rallies in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat. The rally was extremelyy well-received and BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu summed the experience by saying, ““Science has given eyes to the blind and ears to the deaf. But today Narendra Modi has used science to connect hearts across Gujarat.”
Then once again on November 29, Modi brought the magic back, this time in 26 simultaneous locations in 15 districts across Gujarat.As the impact of Modi’s 3D campaigns grew, it drew both praise and condemnation. Some news outlets in Gujarat called the 3D campaings gimmicky and a waste of public money.
But Modi’s approach to technology has always been enthusiastic. Instead of seeing technology as something that might have a negative impact on people’s lives, the Modi administration has always tried to use it as an enabling tool. This stands in stark contrast to the way Congress has traditionally reacted to new communication technologies.
Modi has earlier made use of the social network Google Plus to hold a worldwide interaction with his fans and followers. He also launched a Facebook app this month. The app is intended as an outpost on the social web, inviting feedback and inputs from Modi’s base of followers on the web.
It seems Narendra Modi’s embrace of technology will only get wider with time. The way one reacts to change speaks a lot about the way they will deal with the future. In Modi’s case, if Gujarat’s growth during the last decade of Modi rule is anything to go by, the future appears bright.
