Khel-Kood MahaKumbh will get off to glittering start

The historic moment has arrived, Gujarat is celebrating golden jubilee of attaining statehood, and maybe we can say the Khel MahaKumbh-2010 sees a mark upon the path. Cultural Secretary Shri Bhagyesh Jha has informed that it takes guts to host such a mega sporting event; preparations are in full swing to organize the mega sporting event.

With a jubilant countdown to the mega sporting event, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi has inspired to encourage the natural talent and energy of sports-persons which would lift them to their best performance. They would perform with grace and confident. Under the insightful guidance from the Minister for Sports-youth &Cultural Affairs Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela department’s officials are making relentless efforts to make the event a grand success.

The Khel MahaKumbh will get off to a glittering start with the flagging off to ‘Khel MahaKumbh Flame’ from Shahibaugh Police stadium on 20th November, which will arrive at taluka and district places on 21st. The district Panchayat -seat-wise competitions would begin on 22nd.As per the schedule- from 22nd to 25th the District Panchayat, Municipality and Municipal Zone-wise competitions are to be held. From 26th to 29th the taluka-level contests are to be held. Direct district level competitions are on anvil from 25th to 1st Dec. Inter district competitions are to be held from 1st to 4th Dec. Special coaching session is arranged with an aim to polish their talents for the players from 5th to 7th Dec. All the state level sporting competitions up to semifinal stage are scheduled to be held between 8th to 12th Dec.

District Panchayat Seat level, Municipality and Corporation Zones, and Taluka level competitions includes sporting events such as athletics, volleyball, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho competitions. District level contests to include basketball, football, judo-wrestling, badminton, table-tennis, skating, swimming, yogasana, hockey, and chess besides athletics-volleyball- Kabaddi and Kho-Kho. State level volleyball completions are arranged separately for the mentally challenged; at the same time, for deaf& dumb and visually impaired persons the special cricket competitions are being organized to mark their participation in Khel MahaKumbh: 2010.

Ahmedabad is all set to host quarter to semi-final level competitions for skating and chess: Surat would play host to swimming, badminton and volleyball: athletics, archery, football and hockey quarter to semifinals at Vadodara: basketball and yogasana quarter to semifinals at Bhavnagar: table-tennis and judo at Rajkot: Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and wrestling at Jamnagar.

Multi-purpose sports complex -Khokhara & Sports Authority–Gandhinagar may get customized to host all the finals. Each sporting event is divided into four age-groups –below and above 16 years age-groups of boys and girls separately. State government has strengthened the sports infrastructure at district level in the recent past. State is making sincere efforts to encourage youngsters to develop their sporting talent and excel in their respective fields.

One of the biggest sporting events as a State we are pleased to see it encouraging athletes’ and sportsmen to aim for the best. Gujarat has ever witnessed such a huge participation up to grassroots, the Khel MahaKumbh is really a historic and momentous occasion, which will create and surpass many records.

PM chairs CCS Meeting to review measures being taken in the context of ongoing West Asia Conflict

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi a special of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review measures taken by various Ministries/Departments and also discussed further initiatives to be taken in the context of the ongoing West Asia conflict, at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg today. This was the second special CCS meeting on this issue.

Cabinet Secretary briefed about the action taken to ensure supply of petroleum products, particularly LNG/LPG, and sufficient power availability. Sources are being diversified for procurement of LPG with new inflows from different countries. Similarly, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is being sourced from different countries. He further briefed that LPG prices for domestic consumers have remained the same and Anti-diversion enforcement to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG is being conducted regularly.

Initiatives have also been taken to expand Piped Natural Gas connections. Measures like exempting the gas-based power plants with a capacity of 7-8 GW from gas pooling mechanism and increasing of rake for positioning more coal at thermal power stations etc. have also been taken to ensure availability of power during the peak summer months.

Further, interventions proposed to be taken for emerging challenges in various other sectors such as agriculture, civil aviation, shipping and logistics were also discussed.

Various efforts like maintaining urea production to meet requirements, coordinating with overseas supplies for DAP/NPKS suppliers are being taken to ensure fertilizer supply. State governments are being requested to curb black marketing, hoarding, and diversion of fertilizers through daily monitoring, raids, and strict action.

The retail prices of food commodities have been stable over the past one month. Control Rooms have been set up for constant monitoring and interaction with States/UTs on prices and enforcement of Essential Commodities Act. The prices of agricultural products , vegetables and fruits are also being monitored.

Efforts to globally diversify our sources for energy, fertilizers and other supply chains, and international initiatives for securing safe passage of vessels through the strait of Hormuz and ongoing diplomatic efforts are being taken.

Enhanced coordination, real-time communication, and proactive measures across central, state, and district levels to drive effective information dissemination and public awareness amid the evolving crisis is being undertaken.

Prime Minister assessed the availability of critical needs for the common man. He discussed availability of fertilisers in the country and steps being taken to ensure its availability in the Kharif and Rabi seasons. He said that all efforts must be made to safeguard the citizens from the impact of this conflict. Prime Minister also emphasised smooth flow of authentic information to the public to prevent misinformation and rumour mongering.

Prime Minister directed all concerned departments to take all possible measures to ameliorate the problems of citizens and sectors affected by the ongoing global situation.
