Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today called for India taking world leadership in saving the mankind from various problems and troubles with the help of vast storehouse of knowledge in Sanskrit. He said that no nation can establish its influence in the world without promoting its culture.

Expressing his angst and anger at long neglect and negation of this oldest and richest cultural heritage, he said that restricting Sanskrit within the walls of classrooms has resulted in its stunted growth. He stressed on the need to connect Sanskrit with daily life. It is high time India re-establish its greatness before the world, he said.

He said there is solution to almost all the problems of the world in scriptures, including recent developments like global warming, just as Bhagawad Gita enlist the best answers to what is nowadays called human resource management. The Vedas through yoga suggest the ways to solve the problems of the world.

Mr. Modi was Inaugurating a three-day national Sanskrit Mahakumbh being organized in collaboration with Sanskar Bharati at Somnath Sanskrit University, being attended by Sanskrit scholars from all over the country.

The highlights of the Sanskrit Mahakumbh include record one lakh students acquiring Sanskrit recitation skills during the last year, while 12,000 participating in different events.

Delivering his speech in Sanskrit, Sanskrit Bharati national general secretary Ramkrishna Shastri said that Sanskrit reflects the true identity of India, which leaves its traits from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapith Vice-Chancellor Prof. Harekrishna Satpathi of Tirupati in his message lauded Mr. Narendra Modi's efforts to revive and re-establish the importance of Sanskrit. Saurashtra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Kamlesh Joshipura unveiled the Sanskrit Mahakumbh souvenir.

Education Minister Ramanlal Vora and Minister of State for Education Vasuben Trivedi unveiled a CD on Swarnim Gujarat Gaurav song 'Jay Gurjar Dhare Vibhasi'.

Prominent among those present were Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala, Parliamentary Secretary L.T. Rajani, Principal Education Secretary Hasmukh Adhia, Youth Services Secretary Bhagyesh Jha, Jagannath Sanskrit University Kulpati Nilkanthapatiji and veteran scholar Prof. Gad Gilji.
