Gujarat a leading employment creator of India since 2002!

A recent report by the Labour Bureau said Gujarat has lowest unemployment rate across all states in India.

‘Skill+Will+Zeal=WIN’

Shri Narendra Modi's Sutra for success that he shared at NIRMA University

An integral part of the process of development is to create opportunities for the people. Generating employment is a key way to enable each and every individual to stand on his or her own feet and lead a life of dignity. Employment is as much a means to develop a variety of skill sets, as it is a means to secure one’s bread and butter.

In the last decade, the Gujarat Government has made path-breaking efforts to enhance employment opportunities across the state particularly for the youth. Fortunately, the results of these efforts are now showing. Gujarat tops the list in providing jobs to candidates through Employment Exchanges for the last many years as per data available from the reports of the Director General of Employment & Training, New Delhi.

The figures truly indicate the advances Gujarat has made! Since 2002 it has kept its top position and has been far ahead of other states. Even in the wake of the world’s financial crisis post-2008, Gujarat has remained a land of opportunities and economic stability.

In some more good news, the recent report for 2011-2012 from the Labour Bureau stated that Gujarat has the lowest unemployment rate across all states of the country. It states that while India’s jobless rate stood at 3.8% during the last fiscal, Gujarat’s rate stood at 1% and was the lowest. The Report also noted that Gujarat has an extremely low unemployment rate among females in urban areas.

This decade long success would not be possible without Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of bolstering the people of Gujarat with relevant skill sets that gives them the opportunity to shine in the job market. On many occasions he has stated that the question of whether India or China will reign supreme in the 21st century will be answered by the skills their respective populations possess, particularly the youth.

There are several instances to illustrate how his grand vision has taken seen the light of day, powering rays of hope in the lives of thousands of individuals and their families. Gujarat is celebrating 2012 as ‘Yuva Shakti Varsh’ or ‘Year of Youth Power’ to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Swami ji himself was a strong believer in the power of youth and as a part of the celebrations, Gujarat observed the Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week in April this year. During the week, Shri Modi himself handed over a record 65,000 job letters to youngsters at programmes organized in Kutch-Saurashtra, Central Gujarat, South Gujarat and Ahmedabad

To arm youngsters of Gujarat with basic IT skills the Government launched eMPOWER last month. eMPOWER would train thousands of people in basic computer skills and even on the day it started, over a lakh people had registered for it! eMPOWER is going to be a path breaking one in taking technology to the common man and would create multiple times more opportunities for the people who make good use of the initiative.

Just a few days ago on 3rd August 2012, Shri Modi handed over appointment letters to 1,092 drivers and conductors associated with the GSRTC. Shri Modi shared that over the last six years, GSRTC has added 7,660 such employees and that is a commendable feat in itself.

Strengthening Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) has served as a prime source of rise in employment creation. Today, ITIs have ensured lakhs of youngsters have steady jobs to sustain themselves and their families. Even in the 2012-2013 Budget there were significant provisions for the vocational sector.

Today Gujarat has emerged as a centre of vibrant economic development. With this development comes opportunities but very often financial constraints prevent the people from pursuing the relevant education to exploit these opportunities. With such initiatives by Gujarat, this anomaly is on the verge of becoming history. Here is a land that is not only developing but also creating jobs that is empowering the lives of thousands of people across the nation!
