Dr Shrimati Kamlaji asks youth to canalize their energy and energy for nation’s development Narendra Modi exhorts students to come out of indecision and insecurity, chart out their own path and face challenges

Surat, Sunday: Gujarat Governor Dr. Shrimati Kamlaji today exhorted students to canalize their infinite energy and enthusiasm into productive activities in the development of the nation by virtue of which the nation’s progress is sure to double.

Speaking at the 43rd convocation of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University here, she said that one purpose of education is to prepare oneself for gainful employment, but it should also include preparation to serve the society and the nation.

Dr Kamlaj, who is also the chancellor of the university, said that education and knowledge are complementary to one other and the present day requirement in this age of globalization is to raise the level of higher education and particularly research to international standards – be it in the field of arts or technology, agriculture or industry, trade or commerce.

She wished the alumni of the university stood up to the scholarship and fearless social reformer Veer Narmad with which the name of the South Gujarat University is associated.

Delivering the convocation address, Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi called upon the students to come out of indecisiveness and sense of insecurity, chart out one’s own path and the build the capacity to face the challenges of life. As per Indian traditions, he said, no education is considered to be complete until a student overcomes the regime and rigours of gurukul, which prepare them to possess willpower and face the tribulations of the world. It is also an occasion to repay the debt to the guru by rising up to the expectation of the society

Mr. Modi said that another purpose of education is be inquisitive and the yearning to learn throughout life. The students have to keep pace with the development of the state. He congratulated the pass-outs and particularly meritorious students and said that India is a nation of youth comprising 65 per cent of the population. It happens to be the 150th birth anniversary year of Swami Vivekanand. He said that Gujarat has now 42 universities, imparting specialized knowledge in different courses.

On the occasion, D Litt was awarded to abhinav samrat Padmashree Upendra Trivedi for his contributions to theatre and posthumously to noted poet-litterateur Ushnush.

The Governor presented degrees to 34,668 students in nine faculties. There were 88 students for Ph.D. She also distributed 76 gold medals and 74 silver medals to meritorious students. Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dakshesh Thakre gave details of the courses and students’ activities. Registrar J. R. Mehta conducted the programme.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Minister Narottam Patel, Member of Parliament C. R. Patil and Darshanaben Jardosh, MLAs, Mayor Rajendra Desai, guardians of graduating students and educationists.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated all those who have successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination, 2025. He said that their dedication, perseverance and hard work have enabled them to achieve this significant milestone.

The Prime Minister noted that clearing the Civil Services Examination marks the beginning of an important journey of public service. He wished the successful candidates the very best as they embark on the path of serving the nation and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his message to those who may not have secured the desired outcome in the examination. He acknowledged that such moments can be difficult, but emphasised that this is only one step in a larger journey.

Highlighting that many opportunities lie ahead, both in future examinations and in the many avenues through in which individuals can contribute to the nation, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to them for the road ahead.
