India’s first Geospatial Technology Park to be set up in Gujarat

India’s first Geospatial Technology Park will be set up in Gujarat with a view to push research in space technology and surveying activities in various parts of Gujarat. Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced this today in World Geospatial Forum, held in Hyderabad.

The international forum was organized by Science and Technology Department of Government of India where Gujarat was given the award for the ‘Premier Geospatial State of India’ for the best use of space technology through the medium of Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications & Geoinformatics (BISAG). Gujarat’s name was selected unanimously by an international jury. BISAG Director Shri T.P.Singh received the award in the presence of Chief Minister.

Chief Minister, expressing satisfaction over the recognition earned by BISAG said that Gujarat, with its unique geography and natural resources, possesses an immense potential for growth. Balance between technological development and preservation of nature, is the need of the hour and Gujarat is going ahead to strike this balance with optimum use of space technology, as envisaged by Dr.Vikram Sarabhai, he said.

Shri Modi detailed out that how various government departments in Gujarat work hand-in-hand with BISAG to solve complicated problems using integrated data sources. He also gave details of how space technology is being used in Gujarat in the field of education right from the primary education to the post graduation, how various skill-building programmes are being implemented and how healthcare services are being provided in the remotest corner of the state using space technology.

The meet was attended by senior government officials and international adjudicators.

4) MoU in the field of Higher Education

- Facilitate exchange of faculty, researchers and scholars, while undertaking joint research, particularly applied research, in areas of mutual interest for generating new knowledge and innovative practices required for advancing human and socio-economic development goals.

5) Executive Programme for cooperation in millet cultivation and agri - food innovation

- Establish framework cooperation in India’s scientific expertise and Oman’s favorable agro-climatic conditions to advance millet production, research, and promotion.

6) Adoption of Joint Vision Document on Maritime Cooperation

- Strengthen cooperation in the field of regional maritime security, blue economy, and sustainable use of ocean resources.
