"38-lakh sportspersons registered themselves for Khel Mahakumbh-2013 "

Ahmedabad, Saturday: The concluding function and prize distribution ceremony of the annual statewide Khel Mahakumbh-2013, being organized by Sports Authority of Gujarat, will be held in presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the J.D. Nagarwala Police Stadium at Shahibaug here on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 5.30 p.m.

Dignitaries to be present on the occasion included Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel, Sports Minister Ramanlal Vora, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, Minister of State for Law Pradeepsinh Jadeja, Minister of State for Water Supply Nanubhai Vanani, Ahmedabad Mayor Meenaxiben Patel, MPs Harin Pathak and Kiritbhai Solanki, Gujarat Special Olympics President and MLA Rakesh Shah, Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha and Sports Secretary Bhagyesh Jha, among others.

Nearly 38-lakh students and sportsperson had registered for this year’s Khel Mahkumbh-2013, which included archery, athletics, basketball, badminton, chess, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, shooting, skating, swimming, table tennis tug-o-war, tennis, volleyball and other events.

Significantly, the annual mega sports event organized by Government of Government with slogans like ‘Ramyu Gujarat: Jeetyu Gujarat’ has helped sportspersons from Gujarat break many records. In the previous edition of Khel Mahakumbh-2012-13, as many as 25-lakh sportsmen, including 8-lakh females, had participated, breaking 72 records. Prizes worth Rs.32-crore were distributed on the occasion.

Prime Minister highlights efforts to preserve and promote India’s cultural heritage

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has highlighted efforts to preserve and promote India’s cultural heritage and said that India’s cultural heritage is being preserved, celebrated and carried forward with renewed vigour.

The Prime Minister stated that guided by the vision of ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’, efforts ranging from the repatriation of antiquities to strengthening spiritual and pilgrimage infrastructure are reconnecting people with India’s timeless traditions.

In a post on X, he said;
