Rupesh Shah hails from Gujarat

Shri Narendra Modi congratulated Shri Pankaj Advani and Shri Rupesh Shah for their stellar performance at the World Billiards Championship in Leeds, UK. Shri Modi said that both these athletes have done the nation very proud by winning their titles not once repeatedly. While Shri Rupesh Shah won the World Billiards Title for the 2nd time, Shri Pankaj Advani received his 8th world title.

Shri Rupesh Shah hails from Gujarat and joins Shri Geet Sethi in the group of billiard champions from Gujarat.

Shri Modi is an avid sports lover and has left no stone unturned to promote a culture of sport and sportsmanship among the people of Gujarat. A notable example of his efforts is the Khel Mahakumbh, which is a sports extravaganza in which people from all over the state participate. In 2011, for the first time 60,000 specially abled athletes joined the sports extravaganza.

The Chief Minister has been the force behind the setting up of a Sports University and has envisioned the setting up of sport schools in every district of Gujarat. During the Vivekananda Yuva Parishads held through the last month he presented sports kits to youngsters.

PM to inaugurate 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth on 15th January

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) on 15th January 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi. Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion.

The Conference will be chaired by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla and will be attended by 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers of 42 Commonwealth countries and 4 semi-autonomous parliaments from different parts of the world.

The Conference will deliberate on a wide range of contemporary parliamentary issues, including the role of Speakers and Presiding Officers in maintaining strong democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on Members of Parliament, innovative strategies to enhance public understanding of Parliament and citizen participation beyond voting, among others.
