Gujarat's Jyotigram Yojna gets Innovation for India-2010 award

Gujarat's 'Jyotigram Yojna' has bagged the 'Innovation for India-2010' award in the public services category, government spokespersons Health Minister Shri Jay Narayan Vyas and Minister of State for Energy Shri Saurabhbhai Patel said here today.

The 'Jyotigram Yojna', one of the pet projects of Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi, won the award for its novel idea, public utility and implentation, adding another feather to the state's cap in the year of its golden jubilee celebration.

The Marico Innovation Foundation presented the award at a grand function in Mumbai. The eight-member jury was presided over by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Chairman Dr R.A. Mashelkar. There were a total of 372 entries for the awards.

The biennial award is given in four sections, namely public service, trade and commerce, social service and special award.

Those present at the function included Pime Minister' consultant Shri Sam Pitroda, HDFC chairman Dipak Parekh, Shri Bharti Mittal of Airtel, besides Dr Mashelkar.
