New Delhi: Gujarat has been adjudged as a winner of State of the Year award for best practices in e-governance, at the SKOCH Awards 2013 constituted by SKOCH, a strategy and management consultancy.
The award was received today by Shri S K Nanda, Additional Chief Secretary(Home), Government of Gujarat from Shri Nandan Nilekani, UIDAI chairman at a function held here.
After receiving the award, Shri Nanda apprised that the Gujarat model of e-governance has been rated as the best in terms of number of e transactions recorded on e Taal portal. Gujarat has adopted a comprehensive approach towards e-governance with well defined administrative processes involving all departments and its functionaries. The outcome of this is fast delivery of service at lower cost, enhanced reach and increased e-literacy in the state.
The Jury comprising of eminent personalities were spellbound by various schemes of Government of Gujarat in sectors such as panchayats, education, revenue, e Taal and security apparatus and voted to give the platinum award to Gujarat.
In addition to the state of the year award, various departments of Gujarat state including Surat Municipal Corporation, iNDEXTb, e-dhara, Gujarat Informatics Limited and department for home (for digitization of crime database) received awards in different categories.
Gujarat has received a number of national and international awards in last decade for Good Governance. The state has been adjudged the best Big State for providing citizen security and one of the top three Best Big States for their overall performance at the IBN7 Diamond States Awards – 2012. In November 2012, Gujarat was also adjudged Best Big State (Overall) in the country for its performance by India Today. It was also adjudged Best State for Investment.
In the last decade, the State Government has taken a series of initiatives that have generated wonderful results. Gujarat’s pioneering initiatives in areas such as water management, disaster management, health care, education, women empowerment, rural development, industrial development, investment promotion have been studied far and wide and several of them have been replicated and up-scaled in other states of the country.
