Shri Narendra Modi campaigned for the upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections, addressing a huge rally in Dwarka. Shri Modi made a strong pitch to the voters to support the BJP and Akali Dal candidates in the coming Vidhan Sabha elections. Shri Modi affirmed that except safeguarding the chair and holding power the Congress has no dreams whereas the BJP dreams of a developed India. He minced no words in saying that India is now dreaming of a Congress Mukt Bharat.
Shri Modi avowed, “Congress is not bothered about the condition of the common people. Prime Minister talked about the safety of women but how can we forget Nirbhaya? When you go to vote, think of how they made Delhi a rape capital. Remember how the police was sent in the middle of the night to Ramlila Maidan and an innocent woman was killed. When you go to vote, first bow down to the gas cylinder at home because they are snatching that also. Do remember what happened in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, where memorials for heroes were desecrated and then remember how the Pakistan PM was fed chicken Biryani in Jaipur in the name of protocol!”
Giving a befitting reply to Congress Vice President Shri Rahul Gandhi, who said that there are two different lines of thought in India, Shri Modi said, “I agree with what he said but did he say what are the two different lines of thought? Their thought is India is a beehive (Madhumakhi Ka Chhata) but our thought is India is our Mother (Maata). Your thought is poverty is a state of mind, our thought is that the poor are manifestation of Almighty. Shahzada, for you poverty may be a joke but it causes pain and anguish in our hearts. Shahzada you say money does not grow on trees but we say it grows in the fields and in the sweat of our workers. Shahzada your thought is to divide and rule, our thought is to integrate and do development. Your soch is Vanshvaad, our soch is Rashtravaad. You say Rajneeti is everything, we say Rashtraneeti is everything. Your thought is to save the chair, our thought is to save the nation.”
Taking on the poor governance record of the Delhi government, Shri Narendra Modi questioned why is it that a city on the banks of the Yamuna does not have clean drinking water. He gave the example of the Gujarat’s government’s efforts to give water from the Narmada to thousands of villages, including Army personnel at the India-Pakistan border. “You are in power for 15 years and you have not been able to provide water but you ask what is our model,” Shri Modi said, referring to the Delhi Chief Minister.
He also asked the Delhi Chief Minister about the unclean state of the Yamuna and said that excessive amounts of money have been spent on it but nothing has happened. In contrast, he talked about the redevelopment of the Sabarmati Riverfront, which was achieved at a much lower cost. Shri Modi also questioned why the BRTS failed in Delhi while the BRTS in Ahmedabad and Surat is receiving laurels. “Agar irade neek ho, aap Janata ke dukh sukh se saath jude ho to samadhan ke raaste apne aap milte hain,” Shri Modi pointed out.
Shri Modi correctly pointed out that the Congress feels it has been born with the right to rule and that the people are in their pockets. He added that the Congress changed its names, symbols and policies but the Niyat of the Congress remained the same. He shared that the Commonwealth Games were a great opportunity to present India on the world map but apart from the disgraceful monetary corruption, the Centre failed to rise to the occasion and make full use of the opportunity.
He took on the Congress for their failure to bring down prices. Shri Modi pointed that during the time when Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power, rising prices were kept under check but that does not happen now and Congress leaders make statements attributing price rise to the fact that the poor are consuming two vegetables. Shri Modi shared that the PM had asked him to head a committee on bringing down price rise, which also gave suggestions and actionable points but nothing has happened on that. He attacked the Congress for their acts of corruption including the coal scam.
Shri Modi concluded his speech with an appeal to the people of Delhi to come and vote in large numbers and make the BJP victorious.
The BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Delhi, Dr. Harsh Vardhan delivered a strong speech where he took on the Sheila Dixit government for its failures and presented an alternative vision for Delhi if the BJP comes to power. Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that for 15 years the people of Delhi were given false promises but nothing happened. He asked why the city was not getting water, why nothing has happened on unauthorized colonies and for the development of the villages on Delhi’s outskirts. Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the it was Shri Madanlal Khurana who first brought in the Delhi Metro and Shri Vajpayee had performed the Bhumi Poojan of the same. Dr. Harsh Vardhan questioned the Congress government as to why youngsters are still without jobs in Delhi. He assured the people that the BJP would form a government in Delhi that everyone would be proud of.
Former BJP President Shri Nitin Gadkari talked about the failures of the Congress-led UPA Government and urged the people to make the BJP victorious. Amritsar MP Shri Sidhu also spoke on the occasion. BJP Delhi Unity President Shri Vijay Goel was present on the occasion.
