Congress is a matter of the past in Gujarat: Shri Modi

“Congress has ruined the nation and now they have their eyes set on Gujarat!” warned Shri Narendra Modi as he made a strong pitch to the people to vote for the BJP and reject the Congress in the 2012 Gujarat Vidhan Sabha elections. Shri Modi was speaking at 2 massive public meetings held atMakarpura and Harinagar in Vadodara on the evening of 6th December 2012.

Shri Modi talked at length about the development in Gujarat and attributed it to the farsightedness of 6 crore people of Gujarat. “I congratulate the farsightedness of the people of Gujarat. If they had given Gujarat in the hands of those in Delhi, what would have happened?” he asked and added, “People of Gujarat are not letting Congress set its foot in Gujarat, that’s why the state has been saved.”

He recalled that earlier Chief Ministers changed ever 2-3 years and buying-selling of MLAs was rampant. “No one bothered about the happiness of the people ” he affirmed. He said that now things have changed and it’s been 11 years since the state has chosen stability. He urged the people to continue this stability and vote for the BJP in the upcoming elections.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Gujarat has become synonymous with development. “Earlier if someone asked where is Gujarat it was said its north of Mumbai but today if someone asks where is Mumbai it is said its south of Gujarat” Shri Modi declared, adding that the state has made a mark for its development all over the world.

Shri Modi said that these elections are to choose who we want to give the future of Gujarat to. He made an appeal that the people choose those they trust and know. “You know me and have seen my work and that’s why I have come to seek your blessings,” he stated. The Chief Minister shared that every moment of his life is devoted to the people of Gujarat.

He affirmed that these elections are between the hardwork and sweat of the BJP Karyakartas versus the money power of the Congress. Giving an example of the money power of the Congress, Shri Modi asked how the Congress is able to give so many advertisements for the last 6 months?

The Chief Minister came down heavily for the Congress for being unable to play the role of a constructive opposition and accused it of treating Gujarat as a enemy state. He questioned, “Is there any place for a party in Gujarat that treats Gujarat as an enemy state in Delhi? It is the need of the hour that they are punished for their anti-Gujarat mindset”

In his speech he gave several examples of Congress’ anti-Gujarat mindset.Talking about his innovative usage of 3D technology to interact with the people, Shri Modi said that it is for the first time in the world that this is happening, the world media took note of it but the Congress wrote to EC that this must stop. Likewise, the Congress sought IT notices for all those companies who invested during Vibrant Gujarat summits.

Shri Modi stated that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Mrs. Sonia Gandhi are expected to campaign in Gujarat over the coming days and asked them to do their homework properly before they visit Gujarat. “They cannot see eye to eye with the people of Gujarat. Congress is a matter of past for Gujarat” he declared. The Chief Minister said that when they come, the PM and Mrs. Gandhi would talk about the money coming from the centre but questioned that them what about the money Gujarat sends to Delhi every year? He shared that Gujarat contributes Rs. 60,000 crore to New Delhi and warned them against projecting Gujarat as a beggar state.

The Chief Minister described the Congress party one that it has cheated the youth of the nation. He recalled the 2009 Congress promise that it would generate 1 crore jobs and asked if any youngster has got a job from Delhi. On the other hand, GoI reports suggest that Gujarat creates 72% of the jobs in the nation. Similarly, Shri Modi shared that for 20 years of their rule the Congress did not recruit people for Government jobs and under Shri Modi that changed- 3 lakh recruitments were made and not a single allegation of corruption was made, he stated. He further opined that today Gujarat’s police force is the most youthful across the nation. Shri Modi declared that if any youngster sought a Government loan the Government would become a guarantor. “I am doing this because I have faith in Gujarat’s youth!” he avowed.

During his speech the Chief Minister termed the IOC suspension of India as matter of shame. “The world’s most youthful nation was suspended from the IOC. Doobi Maro Congress Mitron!” he declared and added that he cannot se our nation getting insulted like this. Shri Modi spoke about Gujarat’s initiatives to promote sport in the state among the youth.

Shri Modi said that over the years a neo middle class has emerged and it is for the first time that a party has come out with schemes for their development and growth. He was referring to the BJP’s Sankalp Patra, which has listed several initiatives for this new emerging class of people.

He categorically stated that for him, the 6 crore people of Gujarat are his family and he will continue to work for their happiness. Both the public meetings were attended by large number of people.

The projects span key sectors including rail connectivity, urban livelihoods, science and innovation, citizen-centric services, and advanced healthcare, reflecting Prime Minister’s continued focus on inclusive growth, technological advancement and improved quality of life for citizens.

In a major boost to rail connectivity, Prime Minister will flag off four new train services, including three Amrit Bharat Express trains and one passenger train. These include the Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express, Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express, Thiruvananthapuram-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, and a new passenger train between Thrissur and Guruvayur. The introduction of these services will significantly enhance long-distance and regional connectivity between Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, making travel more affordable, safe and time-bound for passengers. The improved connectivity will provide a strong impetus to tourism, trade, education, employment and cultural exchange across the region.

As part of efforts to strengthen urban livelihood, Prime Minister will launch the PM SVANidhi Credit Card, marking the next phase of financial inclusion for street vendors. The UPI-linked, interest-free revolving credit facility will provide instant liquidity, promote digital transactions, and help beneficiaries build formal credit histories. Prime Minister will also disburse PM SVANidhi loans to one lakh beneficiaries, including street vendors from Kerala. Since its inception in 2020, PM SVANidhi scheme has enabled first-time access to formal credit for a large majority of beneficiaries and has played a critical role in poverty alleviation and livelihood security among urban informal workers.

In the field of science and innovation, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the CSIR-NIIST Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship Hub in Thiruvananthapuram. The hub will focus on life sciences and the bio-economy, integrate traditional knowledge systems such as Ayurveda with modern biotechnology, sustainable packaging, and green hydrogen, and promote startup creation, technology transfer, and global collaboration. It will serve as a platform for converting research into market-ready solutions and enterprises.

Strengthening healthcare infrastructure will be another key focus of the visit. Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Radiosurgery Centre at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram. The facility will provide highly precise, minimally invasive treatment for complex brain disorders, enhancing regional tertiary healthcare capabilities.

Prime Minister will also inaugurate the new Poojappura Head Post Office in Thiruvananthapuram. This modern, technology-enabled facility will offer a comprehensive range of postal, banking, insurance and digital services, further strengthening citizen-centric service delivery.
