Ahmedabad, Saturday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today met last Commonwealth Games gold medalist in rifle shooting Ms Lajja Goswami, hailing from Gujarat, and other members of her family.
She had brought the rifle worth Rs.6-lakh purchased from Switzerland with the help of Gujarat Government with which she subsequently won many medals in other games. Mr. Modi put his signature on the rifle and wished her many more success in future.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, said that compassion brings self-respect and contentment brings true happiness. He noted that this spirit further strengthens the bonds of cooperation and harmony in society.
The Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam-
“कारुण्येनात्मनो मानं तृष्णां च परितोषतः।
उत्थानेन जयेत्तन्द्रीं वितर्कं निश्चयाज्जयेत्॥”
The Subhashitam conveys that self-respect is achieved by showing kindness or compassion to others. Greed is overcome by being satisfied at one's fortune in life. One must conquer laziness, dubious reasoning and indecisiveness by exertion and entrepreneurship.
The Prime Minister wrote on X;
“करुणा से आत्म-सम्मान और संतोष से सच्ची खुशी मिलती है। इसी भाव से समाज में सहयोग और सद्भाव की डोर और सशक्त होती है।
कारुण्येनात्मनो मानं तृष्णां च परितोषतः।
