On the evening of Saturday 6th April 2013 the BJP held a massive Karyakarta Mahasammelan in Ahmedabad to mark the 33rd Sthapana Diwas of the Party. BJP President Shri Rajnath Singh attended the Mahasammelan and was felicitated on the taking over as the National President. Also felicitated were newly appointed Vice President Smt. Smriti Irani and General Secretary Shri Amit Shah. Addressing a packed gathering, Shri Narendra Modi affirmed that the BJP was not born out of the lure of power or for brokers of power but the party was born for the well being of each and every citizen. He pointed out that the BJP’s 33-year journey has been that of creating a new ray of hope among the people of India.

He stated that wherever the BJP has reached is not due to any one person but generations of Karyakartas and their families. Shri Modi affirmed that for the BJP, the
‘Desh’ is above the
‘Dal’ (Above the party is the nation).

“We will work anywhere for Bharat Mata. Our Mantra here is Gujarat’s growth for India’s growth. I said it on my first day and I am saying it now- will leave no stone unturned in working hard.”

Shri Modi said, “There is a big difference between the BJP and the Congress. There cannot be a comparison.” Taking on the Centre for the rampant misuse of power Shri Modi affirmed, “I want to warn those sitting in Delhi- if you think your CBI attacks will make us unhappy you are wrong. If you think you can trouble BJP Governments with Governors then take it in writing…the people will give you an answer and have already answered you.”

Talking about the patriotic zeal of BJP workers, Shri Modi stated, “When one does good, there are many obstacles. What is the reason that in states like Kerala and West Bengal so many BJP workers lose their lives, at the hands of Left cadres, for the sake of the country? In spite of this and despite the fact that they are nowhere close to power our Karyakartas continue to work”

Shri Modi took a dig at the top Congress leadership for their poor understanding of India. He declared, “I heard a speech of the Congress leader and I was pained. I wondered if they think like this for the nation! The Congress leader said India is a beehive. For you it may be a beehive but for us, this nation is our Mother. Bharat is our Mata and its people are our brothers and sisters. This is a pure land and a land of saints, Rishis.” He added, “Do not insult our Bharat Mata. If you do not understand India go learn but do not do this.”

Taking on the Congress leaders, both in Gujarat and in Delhi Shri Modi said, “There is a big water shortage but their leaders are not even aware of it.” He affirmed that the Gujarat Congress leaders are misleading the people in the name of water and further pointed, “I tell them, if you are worried about the farmers, tell your Government in the Centre give permission to raise the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam. We cannot wait any longer to finish work on the Sardar Sarovar Dam. Congress will have to give an answer to the people.”

Similarly, the Chief Minister shared that the people of Gujarat have taught the Congress a lesson in the Elections, defeated their leaders and given a fitting answer to the sort of language they used yet, they have not changed. “We thought they will change, follow democratic ideals but only now we are completing 100 days and they were not willing to wait even for so long.”

Thanking Shri Rajnath Singh for his very kind words earlier during the programme, Shri Modi said, “You (Rajnath Singh ji) have been very kind to me. The name may be taken of Modi but the credit goes to my Karyakartas brothers and sisters. If they had not worked hard, who would know Narendra Modi? This is all due to them.”

Shri Modi further opined that there are political parties that have been in existence for over 80 years still have not been able to come to power but it was the BJP, which in a very short span formed the Government at the Centre under Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Shri Modi urged the Karyakartas to go out with the determination to make the Lotus shine and to those throwing dirt on the BJP he said, “The more dirt you throw, the more the Lotus will shine.”

Shri Modi’s speech was followed by an oath, read out by Rajya Sabha MP Shri Parshottam Rupala where the BJP leaders and Karyakartas vowed to relieve the people of their hardships and to make India the greatest nation.

Before Shri Modi, BJP President Shri Rajnath Singh spoke on the occasion. He said, “If there is the most popular leader in India today, it is Narendra Modi.” He said that Shri Modi has walked on the path of Mahatma Gandhi and made Gujarat a model state of development. He also lauded Shri Modi for rising above divisive politics. On the development of Gujarat, Shri Singh said that even the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation that is headed by the Congress President lauded Gujarat’s progress and so did a report from USA, which called him incorruptible.

Referring to the various phrases and adjectives used against Shri Modi by Congress leaders, Shri Rajnath Singh affirmed, “It hurts when such as Chief Minister is called a ‘Maut Ka Saudagar’ (merchant of death) but the people have answered these elements very well. Congress got an answer for calling him ‘Maut ka Saudagar’ and this time when you called him Yamraj, the people will teach you a lesson, wait for 2014.”

Shri Rajnath Singh took on the Congress for running the nation and asked why do prices rise only during Congress rule. He shared that the BJP too was in Government for six years but they did not allow the prices to rise. He also took on the UPA over their attitude in the Italian Marines case.

The entire State Cabinet, Ahmedabad Mayor, all heads of various BJP Morchas among other BJP leaders were present during the Karyakarta Mahasammelan. Party workers from all across Gujarat attended the event in large numbers.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today interacted with Governors and Lieutenant Governors of all States and Union Territories regarding the Covid-19 situation and ongoing vaccination drive in the country, through video conferencing.

Prime Minister said that in the battle against Covid, along with the vaccines, our values and sense of duty are our biggest strengths. Praising the citizens who participated in this battle last year considering it their duty, he said that the same feeling of Janbhagidari needs to be encouraged now as well. He said that the role of the Governors, through appropriate utilization of their social capacity, thus becomes all the more critical to achieving this. Governors are an important link to ensure better coordination between State Governments and society, he said, adding that the combined power of all community organizations, political parties, NGOs and social institutions needs to be harnessed.

Prime Minister suggested that the Governors can actively engage to ensure that social institutions collaborate seamlessly with the State Governments towards micro containment. He said that their social network can help ensure an increase in the capacity of ambulances, ventilators and oxygen in hospitals. Along with spreading the message about vaccination and treatment, the Governors can also spread awareness about AYUSH related remedies.

Prime Minister noted that our youth, our workforce, is an important part of our economy. Hence, it is important to ensure that our youth follows all Covid related protocols and precautions. He said that the Governors’ role is also critical in ensuring the greater engagement of our students in University campuses towards this Janbhagidari. We also need to focus on better utilization of facilities at University and College campuses, he added. He said that just like last year, NCC and NSS also have a key role to play this year as well. Prime Minister said that the Governors are an important pillar of Janbhagidari in this battle and their coordination with State Governments and guidance to institutions of the State will further strengthen the nation’s resolve.

Discussing the rise in the number of Covid cases, the Prime Minister said that in this stage of the fight against the virus, the country stands to gain from last year’s experience and improved healthcare capacity. He discussed the increase RTPCR testing capacity and noted that the country has become Aatmanirbhar with respect to kits and other material related to testing. All this has led to a reduction in the cost of RTPCR tests also. He added that most of the products related to testing are also available on the GeM portal. Prime Minister emphasized the significance of increasing tracking, tracing and testing, and said that RTPCR testing needs to be increased from 60% to 70%. He said that it is pertinent to ensure that more and more people get tested.

Prime Minister underlined that the government is committed to ensuring adequate availability of vaccines. He highlighted that India has become the fastest nation to reach the landmark of 10 crore vaccinations. Noting the positive impact of Tika Utsav in the last four days, he said that in this period, the vaccination drive was expanded and new vaccination centres also came up.

Interaction

The Vice President of India, Union Home Minister and Union Health Minister also attended the interaction.

The Vice President appreciated the Prime Minister for leading the fight against Covid and his proactive steps to develop the infrastructure required to tackle the pandemic. He also highlighted the scientific community's contribution in giving a vaccine to India and the whole world. He also talked about the contribution of healthcare workers, sanitation workers, and other frontline workers who have played a vital role during the pandemic.

The Vice President called upon the Governors to bring up a coordinated front by leading all-party meetings in their respective states and engaging with civil society organisations to spread awareness about covid-appropriate behaviour. The Vice president said that a 'Team India spirit' cutting across policy lines should be adopted, and in this regard, Governors as the 'Guardians of the State' could guide the State Governments.

Union Home Minister stressed the importance of saving each and every life. Union Health Secretary gave a presentation on Covid cases and vaccination drive. He gave an overview of how India has followed a proactive and pre-emptive approach in this endeavour.

The Governors shared details of how their respective states are tackling the spread of the virus and coordinating activities towards ensuring a smooth implementation of the vaccination drive, while also mentioning the deficiencies of healthcare facilities in the States.

They gave suggestions for further improvement in the efforts and shared plans of how Janbhagidari can be increased through the active social engagement of various groups.
