"Narendra Modi to inaugurate 64th Van Mahotsav at Nageshwar near Dwarka"

On Friday 2nd August 2013 the 64th Van Mahotsav will commence in Gujarat. The Mahotsav celebrations will be inaugurated at Nageshwar near Dwarka (Jamnagar district) by Shri Narendra Modi where Shri Modi will dedicate Nagesh Van to the people. Earlier, the Van Mahotsav functions were confined to the state capital but this is the 10th year since they are being held in different parts of Gujarat. Writing about Van Mahotsav on his blog last year, Shri Modi said, “In the last few years, the annual Van Mahotsav campaigns in Gujarat have added a totally new meaning to concepts of social forestry. It also brings out our determination and commitment to ensure that our future generations inherit a greener planter from us.”

This proactiveness displayed in organising the Van Mahotsav is a part of Shri Narendra Modi’s larger vision to create a cleaner and greener planet. Gujarat is one of the four governments in the world to have a separate department for climate change. Shri Modi has penned a book ‘Convenient Action’ where he talks about how Gujarat has mitigated the menace of climate change.
