On the evening of Friday 13th September 2013 the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Board announced that Shri Narendra Modi would be the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, which are scheduled for 2014.

BJP National President Shri Rajnath Singh said, “The BJP has a tradition to declare the PM candidate before Lok Sabha elections and I called for a Parliamentary Board meeting to discuss this. The Parliamentary Board has decided to project Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate. We have taken this decision seeing the mood of the nation and the views of the Karyakartas.” Shri Singh added that the Parliamentary Board congratulates Shri Modi and expressed confidence that the BJP will form the next Government. The BJP President added that all allies of the NDA have been taken on board in this decision.

Speaking after the declaration, Shri Narendra Modi thanked the leadership and the Karyakartas of the party for reposing faith in him by giving him this very important responsibility. He said, “For several years as a Karyakarta I have undertaken several tasks and all the strength that I have got has gone in service of the nation. The Party has given a big task to me, someone who came from a small family. The Party has been built by the hardwork of Atal ji and Advani ji and the blessings of the Karyakartas will give us success.” Shri Modi added, “I bow to the Karyakartas of the Party and I assure that I will leave no stone unturned in working for a BJP victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. I seek the blessings of the people in our efforts to free our nation of the turbulent times we are going through.” Shri Modi thanked the NDA allies for their blessings and also thanked the friends in the media. Shri Modi affirmed that in 2014 the country will fight corruption and price rise and support development and Suraj.

Shri Narendra Modi has devoted his entire life in service of the people. He made a mark for himself as an organisation man, who played a major role in making the BJP a force to reckon with in Gujarat during the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1995 he went to New Delhi and was made National Secretary. During this period he was given the responsibility of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. In 1998 he was appointed the General Secretary (Organisation) and on 7th October 2001 he took over as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a post he continues to hold till date. Shri Modi is the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat and led the BJP to victory in 2002, 2007 and 2012 Assembly Elections.
