Gujarat set to build the 182-mt. tall statue of Sardar Patel, the world’s tallest one, as a tribute to the ‘Iron man of India’ Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will lay foundation stone of the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel- ‘Statue of Unity’ - near Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat on Oct 31 2013. Former Deputy Prime Minister of India and MP from Gandhinagar Shri LK Advani will grace the occasion with his presence. The statue will be constructed in remembrance and as a tribute to the ‘iron man of India’ and the architect of united India – Sardar Patel. The day also coincides with the Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary. The state will be erected at Sadhubet, about 3.32 km. far from Sardar Sarovar dam. The place is expected to emerge as a world-class tourist place.

During this function, Mr. Advani will launch the book, ‘Hind ke Sardar’ and also the ring tone for the same title. In the foundation laying ceremony of ‘Statue of Unity’ by Mr. Narendra Modi, Mr. L.K. Advani, Speaker of Gujarat Assembly Vajubahi Vala and other senior national leaders will be present.

Sardar Patel played a pivotal role in dissolving the then princely states in one united India. Gujarat Chief Minister made it a resolve to build the statue of Sardar Patel so that the name of this great son of India is remembered for ages to come.

The statue which is going to be matchless across the whole world is aptly given the name, ‘Statue of Unity’, having the height of 182 meters that will be the tallest statue in the entire globe. It will be even three times taller than America’s most popular liberty goddess’ statue called, ‘Statue of Liberty’.

It will be constructed on Sadhubet situated around 3.32 kilometres from Sardar Sarovar dam. This statue is to be constructed under PPP model and will render excellent platform for research and developmental activities.

Further, onlookers will avail benefit to adore the wonderful scenery of Sardar dam through the spectator gallery built on at the height of 450 feet. There will be audio visual gallery, laser light and sound show demonstrating the life of Sardar Patel, virtual tour explaining an array of aspects of Sardar Sarovar Yojana, agriculture development, water management and scheduled tribe upliftment programs etc.

A museum and an exhibition center demonstrating the farsightedness and contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be the main attractions of the venue. Ferry services will also be made available to help the visitors reach the statue.

For constructing this statue, most advanced and long-lastingly efficient designs and technologies will be used. Made up of structural steel framework, this statue can sustain during adverse weather and will be resistant to heavy winds and earthquake. Damper and perforated penal are used to construct this statue in order to resist the wind load.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi says, ‘‘The significance of this statue isn’t merely in feet or meters but will be much more valued for the educational, historical, national and spiritual values. My dream is to develop this place as a source of inspiration for ages to come”.

‘Statue of Unity’ will truly pay glowing tribute to the ‘Ironman’ on his birth anniversary.

State Visit of Prime Minister to Seychelles

As part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s State Visit to Seychelles from 27-29 June 2026, Prime Minister and the President of Seychelles, H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie today held official talks at the State House in Victoria, Mahe.

The talks covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, with the leaders agreeing to further strengthen cooperation in health, education, capacity building, digital transformation, sustainable development, social infrastructure, renewable energy, maritime security and defence. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including challenges in the Indian Ocean region, such as illegal fishing, drug trafficking and piracy. Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the progress made in the implementation of projects and initiatives under the Special Economic Package announced by India. Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the development priorities of Seychelles and to further deepen the close and enduring partnership between the two countries.

Following the official talks, both leaders released a joint commemorative logo marking 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Several MoUs/agreements in the fields of Capacity Building, UPI, Health, Agriculture, Shipping, Space, Extradition and Line of Credit were exchanged thereafter. In addition, several announcements in the fields of food security, infrastructure, health, vocational training, maritime security and defence were made in support of the development needs of Seychelles. Later in the day, Prime Minister addressed an Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. In his address, he highlighted the historical bonds of friendship between India and Seychelles and underscored the shared values of democracy, rule of law and people-centric governance that guide the two countries. He noted that mutual trust and close cooperation have shaped a robust partnership spanning development cooperation, maritime security, technology, innovation, health and capacity building. The Leader of Opposition of Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Bernard Georges, also called on Prime Minister. The two leaders discussed India-Seychelles bilateral ties and conveyed their strong support to further build the special friendship between the two countries.
