Raksha Shakti – Enhancing Security : Physical, Social, Economic…

The core function of Raksha Shakti is ensuring security, be it physical, social or economic. Its immediate objectives involve developing the mitigating capacity for natural and man-made disasters making Gujarat Polio and Leprosy free, reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS, reducing infant and mother mortality through innovative initiatives and creating a Siesmological Research Institute.
Since the time Shri Narendra Modi has taken over the reigns from 2001, there has been tremendous change in the lifestyles and mindsets of the people then and now. Social security is enhanced with no violence or curfew on the streets of Gujarat.
The gallantry and devotion of the police force plays an important role in spreading peace and harmony in Gujarat. Gujarat provides advanced and sophisticated tools for disaster management to local government institutions with trained force and advance equipments to match those with developed nations.
Focusing on Human Resource Development, Gujarat has set up a ‘Raksha-Shakti University’, first of its kind in India, to prepare the youth of the state for becoming professional, effective and efficient security personnel..
Vision of CM is focused on social commitment, integrating modern, scientific and technological knowledge and skills in police and security administration, which is vital for maintenance of law and order and ensuring peace and harmony in society.
The state has adopted preventive, detective and investigative work in the field of security and will therefore be able to challenge the modern criminal.
India has been facing problems of terrorism, cross – border infiltration and internal security of our citizens. Gujarat Government has adopted holistic approach with long learn planning for internal & intra-nation security, law and order and civil defense. Gujarat has perceived this menace and to cope with international challenges, the established ‘Forensic Science University’ and Raksha Shakti University will address this issue of national security.
As Raksha Shakti entails more than just physical security, it has taken steps to eradicate malnutrition by initiating ‘Balbhog’ – the ambitious Scheme that covers around 40 Lakh Poor pregnant Mothers, Kids, Teenage Girls. Balanced and Nutritious food, Vitamin Chocolates, Fortified Floor, Iodinated Salt and other facilities are offered to tackle Mal Nutrition. At village level, people have accepted the responsibility of distributing Milk and Sukhadi to Pregnant mothers and Kids.
To reduce Mother and Infant Mortality rates, the Chiranjeevi Scheme has promoted the mindset for Institutional deliveries, around 2.5 lakh such deliveries has taken place. Beneficiaries are the BPL expectant mothers-Chiranjeevi Scheme has saved the lives of more than 1000 mothers and 11000 new born babies.
108 Emergency services are a blessing for Gujarat – a revolutionary initiative with 400 EMRI Ambulance-108- has been pressed in to service. As many as 400 Trauma Care Units are functional, extending prompt services to more than 3 lakh people.108 EMRI service ensured 42.5% safe deliveries, pregnant mothers got new life, 800 deliveries were done in the Ambulance itself.The State wide network of 108-EMRI has offered tremendous benefit to the interior rural parts; it is a boon for the accident patients and the poor people.
As regards to burning issue of Traffic, to minimise threats, prevent crime and safeguard public areas, the Gujarat government has decided to install CCTV-based City Surveillance and Intelligent Traffic Management System (CSITMS) in major cities of the state.
To strengthen its security apparatus along the coastline & safeguard the State from maritime terrorist attacks, Gujarat Government has decided to create a marine commando unit and recruit 600 personnel for it. 31 mechanized 12-tonne boats have also been sanctioned. Moves have been made to establish Maritime Police Academy in Gujarat. The academy will provide a coastal safety force from the current pool of police officers. It will also educate fishermen in identifying threats in their localities. The State Government has initiated coordination with Coast Guard and Indian Navy for this purpose.
Security of mankind to face environment is a prime concern of Gujarat Government. Racing for a sustainable Gujarat, it has adopted various power efficiency energy alternatives – unlimited potentials of renewable sources of energy. The State Government has reiterated its commitment towards development of the renewable energy sector and climate change by allotting 1000 MW of Solar Power capacity to 34 national and international project developers.
To tackle Disasters – man-made or natural, Gujarat has a proactive, comprehensive, and sustained approach to disaster management. More and above this, round the clock security with the ‘Raksha Shakti’ is enhanced in the State in all spheres for peaceful living with harmony.
